International teaching from Development Context

Post by smile2017 »

Hi everyone. I'm writing to find out if anyone knows of any organizations that hire educators and administrators to train local teachers or write curriculum for underserved children around the world, namely for girls and/or children who live in remote places. Or organizations that send educators to support children's education in refugee camps? I have a strong desire to directly help educate Syrian and Sudanese refugees.

I am an experienced international leader and teacher who has worked in international schools in three countries on three different continents and while I enjoy the perks of international education as much as anyone else, my heart is really yearning for something profound and especially after my last post in Africa, I have come to realize that so much more can be done to help improve local schools and help the most vulnerable children. I would love to do this type of work over the summer and then possibly on a full time basis for next school year.

Thank you in advance!

Look into Rising Academies. They write curriculum for schools in Sierra Leone and Liberia.

I applied to be a curriculum writer for them, but they weren't hiring for my subject area at the time.

Have you considered the US Peace Corp?

Hi lastname_Z and PsyGuy..

Thank you for the referral to Rising Academies. I'll check them out.

Peace Corps is not really on my radar, since I'm married with a baby. Although they do have short term placements, but even "short term" is not really feasible, since it would require being away from my family for 6months-1 year. Maybe as my daughter gets older.

I was hoping someone knew of local NGOs on the ground doing this kind of work or a charity that their school works with as part of their service learning efforts.

Any other recommendations are appreciated! Thank you again!

Hi
Malaysia can offer you good opportunities as indigenous children have no proper access to education.

Ann, thank you for this info! Do you happen to know of any particular organizations doing this kind of work?

Thanks again!

PMs are disabled on the public board. The best way to establish personal contact, is to publish your email or contact address in your profile page. Click on "User Control Panel" then click on the "Profile" tab. You will find a number of free text entry fields. You can then enter your email or other contact information in the "interest" text box. Then click "submit". When another member clicks on your profile they can then copy and paste the contact information. You can then remove or edit this text freely.
