Hi everyone!
My husband and I are headed to E. Europe and our school has asked for an FBI clearance. I just got one last year for my teaching job in Pennsylvania and it was no problem at all, however now I went to the website to register for an FBI clearance and it is asking me which Department I need it for. Since I am doing my fingerprints at a Pennsylvania site, the only choices for me to select are the Pennsylvania Dept. of Ed, the PA Transportation Dept. etc. etc. If you don't select a Department, you can't register.
What do we select if we are getting an FBI clearance on behalf of an international school?

I think you're using the wrong form. That form is used if you are requesting a Criminal Background Check to work for a PA State Government Agency - the FBI would then send the results directly to that state government agency instead of sending it to you.

You basically print a fingerprint card from the FBI website, then take that to your local police department or a UPS store, and have your fingerprints taken. Then you send the fingerprint card, application form, and payment to the FBI (address on the website above).

The background check results will be authenticated by the FBI (no need for notarization), and you would then send to the U.S. Department of State (Washington D.C.) to get an apostille, if you need one.

You are at the wrong site. The provider you are working with is essentially saying they only do CRBs for these agencies. What you want is an Identity History Summary. You have two choices:

Direct Route:
1) You go to the local police department and have your prints rolled, most police agencies will provide standard card stock.

3) The fee is $18 and takes 3-4 months.
4) Complete a US SOS Apostile form, here:

5) The fee is $8 and takes about 4 weeks.

Channeler:
1) You can use an FBI channeler in your local area, they can process the same CRB in a fraction of the time, of course this is at higher cost. You can find the list here:

2)When you get the CRB you then use the same process to apply for an apostille.

Check with your IS and confirm they need it apostiled.

The FBI CRB, the Identity History Summary, will have everything. Anything that was suppressed, sealed, etc will be on that report (assuming it was submitted to the state/national NCIC), as it is intended solely for your review, with the intent of determining its accuracy. You may be using it for other purposes, but from the FBIs perspective thats the only official use.
