Joe, I know quite a few people who went to London over the previous holidays as tourists - not because they are from the UK. As to the London Fair being the 13th, my school would allow me to go out on the 11th, and I'd have those three days plus another two days on the other side of the weekend to get back. Once you are on the circuit at a decent school, getting to a fair is not that difficult. Fairs are organized for international teachers, really, not domestic teachers trying to go international.

many schools will allow for about 3 days for something like a fair if they know you're departing.

Yes, I agree. My school and my previous 4 schools all offered 5 recruiting days to attend Fairs.
