Definitely a GSOH, reisgio, I just didn't see anything funny in your e mails, where you were gratuitously dissing administrators in European and African schools - seemingly because they didn't offer you a job. Cheap shots are never charming.
As to why they hold the fair in London, it's for the same reason that they hold fairs in the US. A large number of candidates at recruitment events are locals looking for their first job overseas, and many of these get appointed; this is as true in Cambridge, Iowa and wherever ISS happens to hang its hat as it is in London. If you moved SEARCH London or CIS to continental Europe you'd probably lose up to a third of your candidates - which wouldn't make sense to anyone. And don't assume that the conference-style hotels in Amsterdam or Frankfurt are any cheaper or better than the ones in London.

@reisgio

I agree, Ive yet to meet an IT who has met Jessica and is a fan.

There are some merits to the previous contributors. There are options for signup, they could hold them outside, hold them at a nearby venue, and places on the property they could be set up, the problem is none of the recruiters want that. Too many sign up sessions and it creates logistics issues. Wait to the last session to sign up with your elite tier dream list and if you dont get them, you cant go back to a previous session, etc. Hold it outside and thats a long time to be outside in London weather in January. Hallways, create potential file hazards, etc. They could have signup on Friday at a Uni or other such location but then there are transport issues. There are options however, and yes one of them is a more costly property, some ITs will want to stay on the property and they can pay the coin and do that. There are options however, just not options that recruiters want.

London is the location because LON is also a regional fair, it attracts UK DTs/ITs and the highest concentration of them is in London and the surrounding area, the fair would shrink if they moved it elsewhere. Its also a hub for travel into and out of. The least expensive flights to the UK tend to be routed through or end up at Heathrow. Its easy to get around in, and the language is easier for other English speakers. Moving to another EU city location would create not only language issues, but there wouldnt be any savings, the properties that would be acceptable are not significantly less expensive and any savings would likely be balanced by higher flight costs, and the biggest issue is youd lose a lot of those UK DTs/ITs.

Reykjavik woudnt work, yes you could get inexpensive airfares there but youd need to make connections extending travel time, and while the flight costs are manageable the time travel is not. There isnt the traffic gong to Reykjavik that London has. In addition it would still result in a shrinking fair, many ITs attend the mega fair as a regional fair, and changing the venue to Reykjavik would add time that ITs/DTs may not have to take. The properties cost wouldnt be any less expensive.
