There is no issue, the foreign tax credit, etc.. are based on residency where the tax payer is physically located. In such a case you would be able to apply for the foreign tax credit on income you earned overseas (assuming you meet the requirements) and would have a tax liability for your domestic based income. It would be a more complicated return, but nothing that couldnt be handled with appropriate tax software, or a professional preparer. A tax attorney would be overkill.
