This school pays a hardship allowance. Has this always been the case?

If not, what are the reasons for this being a hardship post? It is supposedly a Top Level IS.

Thanks for any replies.

Yes, I have.

Old Delhi is a madhouse but New Delhi, where the school is, is ok.

Back to the question: Was the school always paying hardship pay or is this a recent thing? And if recent, WHY is this a hardship post? It's an embassy school. Schools with crazy pollution like IS Beijing - I have been to Beijing many times - aren't hardship schools?

Does anyone know?

Thanks for any serious replies.

Delhi is one of the more polluted cities in the world. Moving around Delhi, at the times you would be free to do so, are also some of the most congested times. With millions of people on the move constantly it is not the easiest place to live. I have had friends go there and stay for years though.

Delhi can be tough:
- pollution - air (worst in world), water, and on the ground all around you
- mosquitoes carrying dengue
- traffic traffic traffic

That being said, I believe the hardship pay is actually to offset transportation costs to school for those housed away from campus. The school is a wonderful place to work.

The hardship isnt the IS, its the location/region the IS is in. Its really just money with a label within a compensation package.
