Canadian International School Singapore Questions

Post by Tomslk »

It has been quite some time since anyone has updated the info for this school. Most of the "reviews" are not inspiring. I am curious as to whether things have changed or are changing in a positive direction.

Is there a salary range that can be shared? Housing allowance for teaching couple? Tax responsibilities of employees to local government impact on salary? Paid in US or Singapore Dollars?

Any information on this school and whether or not it is a school to seriously consider. Thank you for any information you may be able to share.

We clearly ask that you not evaluate schools on the Forum. Posting information about salary, housing etc is fine. Delving into your impression of the director, etc., is evaluation type information and we ask you reserve that type of reporting for the member area. Help us avoid problems and please follow the forum rules. Forum Admin

Fair enough Mr. Administrator. Not trying to break any rules.

So can we focus on the package they currently offer?
1- Paid in US or Sing Dollars?
2- Monthly salary range (15-20 years experience)?
3- Housing allowance for teaching couple ?
4- Taxes (percentage) that employee must pay to local government?
5- Annual flight allowance to home of record?
6- Unknown benefits?

Still hoping for answers to questions above.

New question....are salaries at the Canadian School as well as other schools in Singapore paid in Sing Dollars or US Dollars?

1- Paid in US or Sing Dollars?
(CIS pays in Sing dollars)

2- Monthly salary range (15-20 years experience)?
(around 5-7k)

3- Housing allowance for teaching couple ?
($2200 each)

4- Taxes (percentage) that employee must pay to local government?
(Depends on your gross income. Bet on around 11% - Be aware that all benefits such as housing and children's tuition is now taxable income)

5- Annual flight allowance to home of record?
(1 flight over first contract, then yearly - school provides a list of destinations and the estimate from 3 travel agents. You can choose the cash or the ticket. This is usually done in March)

6- Unknown benefits?
(Haha - nope)

Adding on to taxes:
Singapore's income tax rates are graduated, so let's say your total taxable income is $100,000 - even though you are in the 11.5% band, because of the graduation you will pay about 5600 i.e. 5.6%. Check out iras.gov.sg
