Excelsior International School Malaysia

Post by Spawnboy99 »

Anybody have some up to date information regarding this school, understand its new and has had problems in the past but seeking accreditation with IB,CIS and WASC. It already offers the Cambridge program. Up to date first hand knowledge would be appreciated if that is possible. Had an interview and was honest up to this point even offered to contact other teachers at the school and would give all staff email so not a selected few, which is nice I thought. Understand at the start as new school salary will be on the low side.

Forum guidelines prohibit evaluating an IS. A few issues to consider:

1) Any IS that is pursuing IB Authorization, WASC accreditation and CIS validation, is a monumental task, any one of those is a major curriculum alignment project in itself, doing all three on congruent time lines is herculean.

2) No member of leadership is going to put you in contact with anyone that is going to negatively reflect the IS. Either those individuals have already been dealt with, or staff communications will be monitored, vetted, or trusted only to those faculty that are admin cheerleaders.

3) Compensation on the "low side" means poor salary, are you comfortable being undervalued. If they cant afford you, what can they afford and will the financial resources of the IS be reflected in everything they do? (It will).

It is a brand new "for profit school" located in the "toilet of Malaysia" (as JB is known as in Singapore). Apart from Marlborough College (a high paying well know brand name school) why would anyone work in JB is beyond me. Low pay in JB = misery as you will want to go to Singapore at weekends for some life. BTW most Singaporeans won't go to JB as crime ridden reputation (whether fair or not is arguable).
