Depending on the school your looking at between 6-8 periods a day. Add lunch period, homeroom/mentoring and recess periods (plus passing) and your looking at about 7 hours a day. American and Asian schools tend to go longer, and European and British schools shorter.

Teachers usually have 1-2 weeks before the start of the SY and about a week after the last day of classes. Teachers get national holidays, which vary by country, and most schools have a provision for a religious/National holiday of the teachers choice (1 day). Otherwise a winter/mid year break/holiday is standard.
