Yet another DOD question

Post by BellaLuna »

I believe I read somewhere that when hired on by the DOD, a teacher receives the housing allowance only if they are living in the US when hired. I am wondering if this is true and if anyone has experience with this. Am I to understand that if I am teaching abroad at the time of hire then I wouldn't be eligible for the housing allowance? Thanks for any insight.

No if your hired as CONUS, meaning an external applicant then you get LQA, even if your not in the USA at the time. It does make a difference though however for your home of record and RAT.
What typically happens is that those who are applying as local hires are local because their spouse is stationed there, in those cases you dont get LQA.
