European Schools and Maternity Leave/Childcare

Post by Snowbeavers »

We are looking at having a child in the next year or two and also changing jobs to one of the bigger schools in Europe (ZIS, ASH, ISP, etc). Does anyone know their policy on maternity leave? How is childcare there? I would like to hear from anyone who has had children in Europe and how they managed. What if one of us worked part-time for a year or two (we are both teachers)? What schools would you recommend for children?

In WE maternity 9and paternity) leave is mostly regulated by national law, for which your school will be required to comply. The schools policy is mostly irrelevant, if it differs from national law it will not be enforceable. Depending on the country the laws will differ, but compared to the USA the policies are VERY generous, and include ratios of paid and unpaid leave, which are typically allow for lengthy absences.
