Bangkok (90000 Bhat + 20000 Bhat Monthly Housing Allowance)

Post by Spod »

Hi,

I`m considering a job in Bangkok. Is 90000 Bhat + 20000 Bhat Monthly Housing Allowance a good package for Bangkok? Please help as I have no clue if this is a good package or not.

Are you single? If so it would give you a good lifestyle and the ability to save over half of your salary.

If you have dependents it would mean saving less but still having a comfortable lifestyle.

Is that 90,000 net or gross? If before tax then that would leave you with around 70,000 which would not be a great deal. If after then yes, a pretty good deal, particularly if you have no dependents.

However if you have a non-teaching spouse AND have kids AND that's before tax, then you are going to struggle on that.

All depends on your personal situation to give an accurate assessment.

Understand that the top of the ELL scale where you start seeing bilingual schools is around 60K Baht. 90K Baht isnt the top of the scale, but its a nice salary when you consider an extra 20K Baht for housing thats 110 K Baht, a LOT of people are doing fine with half that money. The top is about 150K Baht, but only a very small number of educators get that and most of them are admins.

Taxes average about 20% but go as high as 25%, you might be in that bracket. Yes a family will of course increase your living costs, but schools dont pay you more because you have a bigger family.
