Macau primary education expansion

Post by LWMM »

Are there any thoughts about teaching in Macau? It is not anything like Hong Kong being a expat. The Macanese ( Chinese and portugal) cultures.

I am interested in the economic growth and many mainland chinese students looking for English Schools. The International School TIS is here with many
classrooms expanding. New education centers focusing on English curriculum. Just a thought - Is it too new? Will teachers be uninterested in a commitment since the change of lifestyle is too much.
There is several Las vegas style shows here since 2- 3 years ago when the Venetian Hotel and Casino opened. These performers take risks and come to live here for 1-2 years. Would a teacher do the same?
Salary is average as the cost of living is very low. A short Ferry from Hong Kong, and HKG (international airport).

It would be helpful for a small independent operator to know any thoughts about this.
Thx

If you're serious about your pre-planning you should just invite a few international teachers who are in HK, China or Taiwan to come check out what you have in mind.

I'll take care of my own flight for a weekend, if you pay for a decent hotel and a really expensive meal. You can show me why a teacher would want to live there and I'll give you my viewpoint.

TIS is a very nice little school, well run, well paid, nice resources, okay little facility..

I know there are many opportunities for make extra $ after school tutoring. People I know there have a nice quality of life (Mid size, rich, modern city, right next to the bright lights of HK)

I dunno about growth of the place.. I think a good IB school could rival TIS. TIS is alberta curriculum thus more Canadian than international...

I'd also come down to tell you more.. lol

Macau is very expensive to live without the benefits of living in Hong Kong. Rent for a 2 bedroom apartment is sitting at about 10000 MOP, food prices are going up and decent clothes are for the most part Western prices. This is not a place to get bargains.

Having said that I really like Macau, there are great cultural things going on all the time, you don't need a car to get around and it is close to Hong Kong and fairly cheap flights to all over Asia.
