The package can vary considerably. It goes from no extra pay to about US$500 per month, and from small time allowance to full time coordinating. And that includes schools that offer no pay and little time, as well as those who offer oodles of time and higher pay. It all depends on the school, their size, the depth of their pockets, how much they expect from their coordinator.
And it can be a step towards principal, but typically the job doesn't include recruiting, student discipline, teacher supervision/evaluation, building maintenance management or budgeting, etc, so it doesn't cover all the areas that a principal will need to be versed in. But it's good practice for many of the other parts of a principal's job.

Agree largely with Sid on this one. It depends what the PYP coordinator does, at some school the PYP coordinator is the PYP principal, in which case id expect a senior admins compensation package.
If PYP coordinator is a junior admin position then compensation varies greatly, it may be little more then an HOD position and you just get a stipend for the extra admin work, but pretty much your a teacher on a teaching salary. If the position is more administrative and less teaching then its going to be near the top end of the teaching pay scale, about 10% more then a teacher salary is my experience for a 1.0 FTE position. If the coordinator duties are over a full load say 1.25 FTE then you should expect an equal percentage increase in salary. So if you have a 1.25 FTE load you should get 25% increase in salary for the workload, and an extra 10% on top of it, so in this case your salary should be 135% of standard. So if a schools teaching salary would be $50K and you have a 1.25 FTE load for PYP coordinator your looking at $50K +$17.5K= $67.5K as a target to start your salary negotiations.

Its more a stepping position to becoming an AP, which can then lead to becoming a principal. Most junior admin coordinators dont have any supervisory, student management, or fiscal budgeting duties. Its very much a technical/academic position.
