Top 10 Schools in Middle East

Post by ajs9791 »

I've just been reading through an old post about people's views on the Top 10 schools in Asia.

I'm wondering what some of the Top 10 of schools in the Middle East are?

No particular order:

American School of Doha
American School of Dubai
American Community School of Abu Dhabi
TAISM Oman
KAUST (take the money and run)
ARAMCO (same)
Cario American College
Tel Aviv
Jordan

I personaly wouldn't go to Saudi, nor would I go to an IB school.

To each his own.....

Which sort of limits the integrity of your list then, does it not ?

AS Abu Dhabi
AS Dubai
Aramco
BAE (Highest IS global salary)
BS Al Khubairat

Lycee International Dubai

First, I would add TAISM to the list in Muscat, Oman. Beautiful and safe country. Beaches, mountains, clean (by ME standards) People stay 5+ years easily there which is saying a lot for the ME. The package is pretty strong and the savings potential is large. Had friends stay 10 years and raise 2 kids there.

I would also add the American Community School of Amman. People tend to stay past their initial contract as well. Pay is strong, savings potential is good, benefits are great (a car is part of the package), and Jordan overall is an awesome country to explore. Plus, you can walk down the street to the liquor store (tons in Amman) and get your cold beer on a Thursday night!

Aramco
AS Doha
ACS Abu Dhabi
AS Dubai
BS Al Khubairat
BIS Jeddah
ACS Amman
Cairo American College
ABA Oman

There's ten, in no particular order. I really can't say these are the top 10, but I recognise them as being decent schools. As an English-speaking upper school IB teacher I don't know much about the schools where I wouldn't fit in, although certainly some of these schools would never match with me for curriculum reasons. I'd go after that Aramco money even if I had to teach first grade!

Some of these schools don't have anywhere near the best pay in the region. On the other hand, I don't think KAUST is a very good school, but from what I hear it pays. In this part of the world, that's all that matters, so maybe my list is a waste.

You have to go to the ME for the money, that really is all that matter in the ME.

BAE is British Aerospace. They do have schools, but they may only go up to Key Stage 2 (elementary). For example, the BAE school in Khobar, Sara Village, runs up to Year 6 (Grade 5) and then students move on to Dhahran British Grammar School. In this case, the Sara Village school is part of the ISG (International Schools Group) "district" so their pay is the iSG scale, which would not be the highest in the ME.

@shadylane

BAE is British Aerospace Engineering, they are the equivalent of Halliburton. ISG is simply a local chain of Saudi ISs. BAE contracted with them to build a school, as a subcontractor. Aside from that contract they have no relationship.

BAE has several selective programs and projects. One of their programs is an upper secondary (2 year program) that prepares students for entry into the national armed services officer corp, its a very high stress program but the average salary is $150,000/year (converted from GBP), thats average for a single teacher, not a teaching couple, the salary scale caps out at just around $200,000.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned St Christopher's in Bahrain, it's in the top 10 best schools in the world! Others are:

BSAK - Abu Dhabi
BISR - Riyadh
BSM - Muscat
DBGS - Al Khobar
BISJ - Jeddah
Doha College - Doha
DESS - Dubai
Dubai College
