I would just focus on one of the big fairs to maximize the options. Or if money's an issue, the cheapest option from wherever I was at the time. Much of it is a roll of the dice anyway.

Plus many schools pull-out of fairs at the last minute. So I agree, it's near futile trying to attend a fair based on the job openings in your field

1.5% of the tax covers medical expenses through medicare. 9-17% is placed into retirement. Students can opt to have their university fees paid for by the government. They are then repaid once the student is earning above a certain amount of income by an automatic 7% deduction from their salary. This loan is indexed by inflation, but interest is not incurred. I've been teaching overseas for 15 years, so haven't paid any back. No big deal.

Is it correct all Malaysian international schools pay 30% toward retirement that you can claim at the end of your contract? Or is the employer contribution above the government's 11% only optional?

Search Sydney Job Fair

We were thinking of giving the next Search Sydney Fair a go, but it's no longer listed as a fair. Does anyone have any knowledge that the Sydney leg has been canned for 2013?

My main concern was I've been told houses in Jakarta are almost always rented unfurnished. With a housing allowance that seems only just adequate - I don't really want to have to spend another $3000 from my own pocket to furnish it for what might only be a 2 year stay.

As mentioned Psyguy, I'm a teacher with dependents and so would need a 3 bedroom house. What I'm trying to find out is the housing allowance for a single teacher with dependents.

Thanks for the advice Mr Cake. I've also read inflation has been skyrocketing in Indonesia. It could really dig into the savings initially if schools don't give advanced payment on housing allowances.

Last I heard it was around US$400 per month. You can't get much in Jakarta for that price nowadays. When was the last time you lived there Psyguy?

Sinarmas

Hi, does anyone know the housing allowance for a teacher with dependents at Sinarmas World Academy? I remember looking at a position there a while ago, but the housing allowance seemed inadequate and I didn't fancy dipping into the savings. Just wondering if it has improved since then. Any help is really appreciated.

What if it never recovers? I guess then your decision will be made easy for you.

Thanks Choirboy, I'll look in Shrewsbury.

I think the ceiling limit a salary is important knowledge for potentially long term staff, yet this data is not generally available through recruitment agents.

Does anyone know the salary limit at the following schools?

Malaysia: Mont Kiara

Indonesia Sinarmas World Academy, Global Jaya, AIS (Jakarta)

Singapore: Nexus, OFS, GESS

Thailand:Concordian
