Thanks
I have the pay side of this site. I read many views, and I see very few mention pay range. I thought there would be a list of countries and schools!

Just curious. What do you mean "look at the pay side of this site". I can't seem to find anywhere that described pay scale for countries and school.
Thanks

Wow great information!!!! I am certified school counselor for all grades and can provide college advisement and college admission. My ideal job would be in middle or high school, and top tier is not a priority. I always worked in public schools with low socioeconomic population so I am used to the cheap to get by stuff.

I know PG you were not in favor of Morocco, but to me it seems like a good fit as I am not looking elite status, as long as working condition is ok and I get paid reasonable salary. What is the best schools in Morocco? I don't care if the gym leaks water or the library is small, etc. From looking at teacher's vacancies and salaries advertised, they are offering around $2900 and up for teachers and I know counselors get a little more.

Yes, I think you are right as Thailand is difficult as many people want to work there.
How do schools feel about accepting only a 1-year contract instead of 2?
I may have to attend UNI and if it does not produce a job, but attend a SA or ISS.

I wanted UNI cause its close to me and I don't have to pay the extra costs (flight, etc...)
Well I have 8 years counseling experience and would not touch a school unless I get at least $3400/month that's if it is low cost of living and including the package. For expensive countries like Dubai, Japan, etc. It would have to be a lot more. I like countries that are cheap and where you can save money and experience a different life.
So, it seems if I want a top school I would have to invest more money on air fair, hotel and maybe pay for SA. Correct? Or maybe attend more and weigh my options? Do they give you time to think and what if you find better deal after you sign?
I have TIE and its nice, so you are saying SA is more but have better database and includes a free fair?

Great information. I don't think I can travel all over due to cost and no time. I want to try one fair and keep my budget to below $300. SF and Boston are okay, but I would like to know more about the UNI fair in February. It seems to have a big list of schools attending and the cost is reasonable. Anyone with experiences to share?
Thanks

Best Fairs

What is the best recruiting fair if I am interested in working in either Morocco, Brazil, Dubai, Thailand...? I am leaning towards UNI in Feb 2014, but only one school from Morocco is attending. Would that change later on?
Any suggestions?

If I am offered an exceptional offer I would go anywhere, but mainly looking specific countries, especially if the cost of living is low.

Moving to Casablanca

Can anyone tell me about Casablanca and how is life for Americans? Can't speak other than English, and nervous about that!!! Hispanic looking which makes me not so obvious walking around the souk, good or bad?
What are the good experiences and how can someone enjoy life while working in an American school.
Any good experience with academies and schools in casa?
What is a good salary? Is housing (paid) clean and reasonable?
How much does it cost for a single person for the basics eating simple Moroccan food, taxis to go to malls and souks, and entertainment once in a while?
Any chance I can talk to someone who is currently working there? Any websites for teachers to have a chat, or maybe a way using this website.
Thanks in advance.

It is amazing that reading some of responses. Is it that bad? Ca people simply leave if thing don't workout in the middle of contract? What are the consequences?
Anyway, I am looking into a position in Casa and have couple that I am getting close to getting.
How much is considered a good salary for a teacher or assistant principal in Casablanca (not Dubai or California, just Morocco)? How much can you live in per month if you are single and don't splurge?
How do taxes work out as far as Americans for the first year since you only worked 4 month (Sep. until Dec)?

Not looking for the best school or the best housing or conditions in schools, but want to experience different country and have a reasonably respectable school. I have good teaching experience. Actually I would rather work with the poor than the rich, but that's not the case for American schools around the world.
Anyone have good experiences with AAC, or ASC?

Working in New York you will be teaching students with low socioeconomic backgrounds which makes your day a lot longer and more challenging. Be prepared to be sworn at and sometimes it can be unsafe which requires you a lot of patience and training on how to react to your students. You may be teaching students who were moved from school to school to school due to behavior and you are still responsible for their progress and will be accounted for how well they do. If a fight broke in your class and you overreact or underreact you are looked at and reevaluated. If students don't meet certain benchmarks, you are a bad teacher disregarding that you just got some of them and this is their 5th school for this year only. My point it can be very stressful.
Over 100k a year seems unusual, even if you got that you will pay half taxes. On the other hand, it is definitely worth trying and I hope you are the one suitable for such challenge. These students can be helped and need someone who is there to help them and not the money, otherwise, 100K will not help you make it. I did it and made a difference. I am proud of that and it was a rough ride. If you think you want the job for the money, you will not make it. You have to have the passion to help needy students who had multiple schools and inconsistent home life (sometimes foster homes).
