Re: Schools/countries to look to or avoid if you're a minori

A highly qualified friend of mine was refused an interview with Rumrudee in Thailand because of her skin color. The interviewer implied it was because parents wouldn't accept a non-white teacher, but really isn't it the school's responsibility to embody good values despite what parents may think? It's an IB school after all.

Re: Please help me from getting discouraged!

We're in a similar situation. Things are kind of heating up just now. I get little pep talks like these from my colleagues all day. As much as I appreciate it, it wears a little thin after a while. I know they're right and we'll find the right thing for us, but it's easy to fall into despair.

BTW, what Rob neglects to mention is that he is a highly experienced and very skilled physics teacher. Those guys can write their own tickets anytime of year.

Quick Help Needed- Interview Tomorrow

I thought I remembered reading about the Springhill School in Malaysia on the forum (in addition to the paid side). If I recall, the comments were pretty negative. But now I can't find anything in the search.

This is the school associated with UCSI. The Springhill campus. I'll take any information (first hand or hearsay) you've got.

Going Back Home

We're considering going home (the U.S) after this school year. We've been overseas for 10 years and have loved much of our time as international teachers, but there's something very attractive about sharing our home, culture, friends, and family with our children who can't remember ever living where they were born.

Just looking for advice, warnings, recommendations, etc from anyone who has ever done this, is planning to do this, or planned to and changed his/her mind.

We are finding things difficult in Bangkok too. We're a teaching couple with 15 years experience, certified, AP and IB experience. We scheduled 3 interviews. Two turned out to be dead ends as the school filled one of our positions before the interview. The third is tomorrow and at a very desirable school. We've got our fingers crossed.

We found that there were not a lot of schools with both of our positions available and we also found a lot of "we'll take a look at your resume and get back to you" instead of scheduling an interview. If we don't qualify for an interview, who does? Very frustrating but trying to be optimistic.

Briz and Chalupa, would you say which subjects you teach? If you don't want to be very specific, can you give us a general idea?

Good going Briz.

Did you have lots of contact with schools before the fair? We'll be at Search in a few days and have not heard a thing (except for acknowledgement emails) from anyone. Hoping that things will come together for us at the fair.

Current Supervisors at the Fair

My husband and I will attend the Search Bangkok fair in just a few days. Both our current principal and head of school will be at the fair recruiting teachers. I want to know if anyone has any advice how to best use these supervisors as a reference. Have you ever done this? Has it worked out? I don't have any reason to believe either of these gentlemen would say something derogatory or untrue, but hey, you never know.

Should I indicate on my resume that they can be found locally and invite recruiters to speak to them or just leave well enough alone?

Looking for any advice.

It's expensive, but I'll have my kid with me, so it's worth the $150 to have him in the same building with me. I'm also relishing the chance to freshen up, take a nap, change clothes, etc.

We're a teaching couple with one depenedent. Not high needs areas but with 15+ years of experience each, 6 international, IB DP and MYP, masters degrees, certified, American, native English, etc.

We have not even had a nibble. Any idea what's going on there?

I don't have first hand experience, but a friend with kids who worked there said they had to leave because of the pollution. He liked the school and Chile in every other way though.
