It wasn't rude at all. Blunt maybe, yes. I'm just blown away as to why you need someone to hold your hand and literally ask them to make a decision for you! By all means seek advice and do your research, but the buck stops with you and it's your life decision to make! How are you going to promote those qualities with your future students if you are unable to confidently do it yourself now?
Regarding me and my students: I promote a level of responsibility and independence that will serve them well in the future. As for 'kindness', well I'm all for it but not sure I can influence that as much tbh. Their parents and immediate family will more likely shape that one more than I am able to!
No harm meant and I wish you well.

'My simple response is...if you were looking to save money and get back on your feet..would you do it?'
Oh, for heaven's sake c'mon, he's told you how he thinks it is. That's your decision now to make! Why do some people need others to tell them exactly what to do even after they have the information provided them? And these people are 'teachers!'

giraffe is correct with the 5 yrs for Indonesia. (though that's somewhere to be cautious with right now anyway!)
Not too sure of the others, sorry.

From what I've seen and heard their 'packages' seem to be on the 'very average' side.

Re: Change of Marital Status
Just to add: Just because a school says they prefer singles does not mean they will not go with a married teacher if they find one that fits for them. They state that mainly to cover themselves and you, as they probably won't give much out, regarding benefits to a dependent. If you are OK with that and both parties are transparent then nothing lost.
Good luck

Re: International School of Samui (ISS)?
Formerly Bluewater IS. Last time I checked they were offering an extremely low salary. That said, things may have changed?
Look on their website and the ages of all those in senior positions and ask yourself- or them - a few searching questions.
Another thing to consider: Thailand has changed and is no longer the paradise it was sold as.

That is 71.
Decent school, English NC and IB Diploma offered. Salary is not fantastic and no housing allowance as far as I know. You could do worse .
Anything specific you are looking for?

I can echo what the last 4 posters have said- steer well clear of both SWA and JWA. And trust me, I DO know what I'm talking about. This is not perception or rumors, it is hard and very cold facts!

I was in Guangzhou for a visit last year and I couldn't breath. Anyone with respiratory issues should give serious consideration to their health before going to China.

Actually this in NOT OK at Elementary either. Ask any parent who has had to sit and watch their child feel like an outsider day after day! Not good at all.
