Question about the IBO search

I am checking for IB schools on IBO.org and I see many with a DY but no MY.

For example, I searched Brazil and it only brought up two MY programs for the whole country.

Wouldnt a school have a MY department if it had a DY department?

Went ahead an applied or signed up as an intern on Search and will update it later. Also just signed up with TIE and paid the 39 usd.

Not as many jobs on there as I was expecting. Does more jobs appear later or something?

Dont really want an intern position. Maybe if it was in an awesome location like Brazil or something.

Question,

For signing up for Search, it wont met me complete the application process because I dont yet have my license. I will get that in March/April. Should I just lie on the application then tell people my situation after? Then I can apply for schools, do research, and possibly look for an intern position as well as a plan B.

Push comes to shove ill take a job anywhere (besides Africa) and at any school.

That is the only thing that gives me a slight hope ill find a job by August starting the searching so late.

Then if that fails I guess its back to Korea for 6-8 months.

From what he wrote it reads to me that he would be getting his license in/through his Masters program which I am assuming would be two years to complete.

If that is the case id advise against that. Take too long. Id go ahead and get the license (9 months). Then get a job and start building up his experience and contacts.

I wouldnt be overly concerned with saving potential in Latin America. More of a go for the culture / experience and not the money type of gig from my research. I hear the top schools in the region pay pretty well though.

@Nomad

I am going through an online alternative certification program affiliated with a University. I have finished most of the program and just need to return to the U.S and finish my 1 week student teaching. My undergrad is in Business (no exp) and I am getting my license in Middle Grades Mathematics.

I get back to the U.S in late Jan and will not be able to attend the UNI or SF Fair. I will still need to complete my program and take my licensing tests. I am looking at applying to school directly and through TIE. I could attend the job fair in Maryland in June if need be.

I dont care about the tier or location for my first contract. Although I am aiming for Middle East, Latin America, and Asia.

A bit stressed, hopefully I will be able to land something.

Might be problematic to get a job without a teaching certificate / license.

You dont need a masters so early in your career. You need experience.

Id suggest doing an alternative certification program (TeacherReady which is based out of Florida) then taking a job in Latin America, Asia, or Middle East.

Get your certification, get experience, then worry about a Masters later.
You say that now, but you are really going to miss those days in Korea teaching ESL. Teaching internationally has made me consider getting an M.ED in TESOL lol.
Oh hell naw. Your like a babysitter / clown.

Parents complain when your class is not "fun". Then they complain when your class is too much play / games.

Always have to smile. I hate grading essays.

This is not even mentioning my disdain for Korean people / society in general.

Fug all that.

Cant wait to finish this. Only thing ill miss is getting to sleep in everyday.

Hopefully I will be able to find SOMETHING.

I would cry if I had to go back to Korea for another year and teach ESL while waiting for the next hiring season.

1) Its always worthwhile to attend job fairs. You want to exhaust every avenue for getting a job.

2) Couldnt hurt however you need real experience teaching your own class and subject not being some assistant.

3) Not sure

4) You need to work at a real international school. ie teaches normal subjects, and has foreign teachers that are certified and licensed. If your the only foreign teacher or if the other foreign teachers are not certified than run.

5) Getting a visa is not an issue for schools. So I wouldnt think its a big advantage. Like someone else said I wouldnt even tell them your wife is Korean.

Some random advice...

1) Lie and say your Christian.
2) You need to tell your wife your gonna have to go to what ever school hires you which most likely wont be in Seoul. Then after getting experience and contacts you can relocate to/around Seoul. She will get over it.
