@WiscoKid: You had interviews? How did they go? Is there a process to go through like a second round of interviews? They have some positions that I'm interested in and so I'm curious as to how they operate. Any info you can give me about their process would be greatly appreciated.

ASFM seems to have a lot of openings, any thoughts as to why that might be the case?

KAK Maybe you don't know the answer to this question, but if the schools are not connected, do they follow the same salary schedule and benefits package? Did you get a position at your school through the school itself or did you interview with Nacel first?

That's kind of the impression that I had, but I just haven't seen anything about them. No information is sometimes information enough I guess.

Any other input? Anyone actually teach at one of their schools?

Thanks everybody for the replies. I think there is some good thinking here.

Psyguy: I think your post here is the most valuable by far. I really liked your concept of how to make it an inroad. You and I think a lot alike I suppose. Fortunately for me I'm nothing but inroads and have no problem helping admid know that I'm the right guy for the job. So I guess my dilemma is figuring out if my goatee makes me look so scary that I never get to the table?

Thanks for all the input =]

Thanks g8teach for the feedback. Thats kind of what I was thinking too.

Mr. Cake I'm a guy so I guess I don't have as much to worry about with the less progressive schools. But thanks for the help anyway =]

Facial Hair and landing a job

Al right this seems pretty silly I'll admit, but it's a serious question that I have. I have a goatee. Will that inhibit me from getting a job? Would I fare better in an interview clean shaven?

While on the subject of SSIS does anyone know if they provide annual flights home over the summer? Their benefits package only talks about leave, not flights.

One more question on the salary subject. Do they pay over 12 months or 10?

Danda: I fear for your safety, but appreciate you taking one for the team =]
I honestly tried searching for it, so double thanks for doing again.
I thought I'd read somewhere that they would only give you credit for 7 years experience. I have 18 years, will they give me credit for all of it? Maybe it was 10 years that I read they gave credit for?

I lived in Canada for a couple of years so I know what you mean, but I'm not Canadian.

Thanks again for the info =]

durianfan and psyguy: Thanks for the BTSA tips. When we moved here from Utah I didn't have to do it at all. But post 2004 it is a requirement for new teachers so we just assumed my wife would have to do it. We will certainly contact the state to see what they have to say, but honestly getting anyone on the phone from the CCTC on the phone (or even to answer an email) is near impossible these days. So thanks for the input =]

Koda:

Thanks for the reply. My wife's medication doesn't seem like it will be much of a problem then. Plus aside from her thyroid condition, our whole family are very healthy, so it's really just this one medication that we are worried about.

Thanks for the input about ortho, it's defiantly a concern that we have.

Anyone else out there with information about healthcare and or ortho?

As far as a salary schedule, is it some kind of secret or something? Looking all over the forum no one seems to want to be specific at all. I guess I'm just used to the states where it's posted on every districts website. So as far as QSI goes, I understand steps and columns, what I'm interested in is where that starts and how much is a step.

Anybody willing to break the code of silence? Or at least explain why there is a super secret?
