Re: Contacting recruiters through Search
Newchapter is correct. I specifically asked my search associate about this and she assured me that if you communicate with them via the search site they automatically receive a link to your file. Good luck

Re: Passport Requests and Serious Teachers
There are also quite a number of "third tier" for profit international schools on this site, besides ESL schools. I got my first job in an international school on this site. They also wanted a copy of my passport right at the beginning. I am guessing that this is because they want to ensure that they are getting a white face. Similar to what many of the ESL schools do. I have no proof of this, only speculation, but I don't see how identity thieves could benefit from obtaining only a copy of a passport. If this is your first gig this site may be OK, however TIE online or some of the others like Search, ISS etc are more likely to have better schools listed.

Re: Work Visa requirements/process
I disagree with the above two posters regarding authentications of documents. I am in my third country with the same authentications for my documents. Of course this doesn't include medical checks and background checks but the rest should be fine. Mine were authenticated by the US Embassy and fitted on the original with a brass rivet. Never had any issues since that at any of the places I have been too.
Good Luck

New Staff Induction days
I have been through a few. Typically they focus on school procedures and policies as well as curriculum and teacher responsibilities. There is usually a time that is also focused on some of the local customs and cultural norms, how to adjust to the new surroundings and where to find things etc. etc.

Re: Getting jobs in Africa when you are older
I think it is doable. By limiting yourself solely to Nigeria you may lessen your chances. If all else fails here's a scenario that would probably work to get you close to Nigeria. Contact QSI, they have many older teachers and do not discriminate towards age. Put in two years in the stans or China and after 2 years you can request to be transferred. Ask to be transferred to Cotonou, Benin. Not far from Lagos and is a nice little school. Good luck

Re: Venezuela vs. Kazakhstan
I expect you might be with QSI. If so another factor you may want to consider is the actual school in both places. The one in Venezuela is very small while the one in Almaty is a lot larger. Also Almaty is becoming more Europeanish with most of the products and restaurants available there that foreigners might find attractive. Whatever you decide don't let people convince you that Almaty is like other cities in the stans as it isn't. I am currently working in KZ and Almaty has changed rapidly in the past decade and continues to do so.

Kuwait Bilingual School
Does anyone have any info on this school. I received an email requesting an interview. I have been to Kuwait so I know the country fairly well. Just can't find any info about this particular school.

Re: Student Loan Payments
I was in the same position. After two and a half years abroad, two being in a so called 3rd tier school. I am now at 25,000. Mine was also at 40,000 at the beginning. I budget carefully and anything left over goes directly onto my loan. My advice, live frugally and budget carefully. Each penny counts and put everything you can directly onto your loan. Good Luck

Re: Phuket: PIADS, British Int, School, or Quality Schools I
I work for QSI. First of all you probably won't make it into QSI in Phuket. Like vettievette stated, people who have been working for a school for 2 years can asked to be transferred and this happens before they begin hiring. An exception might be if you can teach in an area that is hard to fill. Right now they have two openings at Phuket which is a secondary math/science combination and a secondary social studies/PE combination and are probably looking for a couple.
It is true that they pay a reduced salary in Phuket because they enroll a number of locals and want to keep the tuition affordable.
They only have one school in the ME which is Yemen, not likely to be placed there as I hardly ever see any openings there.
I have also heard that religion plays a part in hiring however this was not my experience and religion doesn't play any part in the school where I am at. The director at my particular school is actually quite the opposite and is not religious at all.
In regards to the other schools you listed I don't know much about them.

References/Job Fair
Do recruiters at the SA job fair contact references personally or are the ones left on my Search file sufficient. One of my referees died, another was promoted and is no longer at school and two others have also found new pastures. Not sure how to work this out.

If there is a travel ban how can you go there? You sure it isn't a warning or an advisory?

The question was "How important are professional portfolios in job fairs? Has anyone ever been asked to show one at an interview?" and that was the answer I was looking for. I didn't ask for advice on how to put one together or what it should be composed of.
@PsyGuy, do you have to hijack every post with your ramblings? I hope in the future you will ignore any posts I put here as from reading through this forum I have no interest in hearing what you have to say about anything. Nothing personal, only I am looking for firsthand answers to a question and not some rambling off topic nonsense which will only lead to a debate regarding your character, knowledge etc etc, which I am not interested in.
You have plenty of opportunities to start your posts with hijacking someone else's.
