NIST in Bangkok

Anybody have any recent news from this school? Its website looks nice and the information on Search website does as well. Would appreciate any info from someone who has taught there or knows somebody. Thanks in advance!

I cannot speak to the DODEA schools but it is getting past the point of being proactive with Search Associates. The time to move is now! Schools are already posting their jobs for the 2014-2015 school year. It will take some time to get your documents/references in order with Search and get your account active. Best of luck!

I have friends who were very happy at SIS. They enjoyed a decent salary and quality of life.

A previous poster mentioned Bob Dunseth. Bob's hard work and the work of his great staff helped to make this a great school. Sadly, Bob has since passed away.

I just know how competitive it is and would be very surprised if you had the opportunity again in the future. Good luck in your decision!

Teachit, did you contact the school before they had the job openings posted? If so, did you just send a message introducing yourself or your CV/references?

Go for it! I have never had a negative experience after contacting schools directly and even secured my present job by doing so. Good luck!

I am aware of the political situation and have done my research. Years back, I spent time in the region and have been itching to get back. I have a friend (not at the school) who has been living and working in Harare for about a month. So far, she has a lot of good things to say. I am hearing more positive than negative things about the school as well. Thanks for the input.

Anyone have any up-to-date info about the school? I have read the reviews on the other side of this website. Just curious if anyone has something helpful to add.

I do not think a $7000 a year pay cut is that unreasonable. For some reason, I cannot see your initial post but I seem to remember that this would be your first international position. If that is the case, don't base your decision on $7000 (unless bills back home make it a hardship). Do, however, take into consideration other aspects of the position and location. I was prepared to take up to a $15000 a year pay cut to break into the international circuit.

Thank you for your response. I am in love with everything about Spain, but have to be able to make ends meet. I do have my administrator's license so that could be an option, I suppose.

American School of Madrid

Anyone with personal experience? I have read the reviews on this site and have visited the school's website. It looks like all is not perfect, but that is the case most places. I am curious about the package. ASM's website says that it is competitive and includes a housing allowance. I was surprised by the housing allowance. I know the salary would be significantly lower than what I make now and taxes would be another consideration. Any helpful info out there?

Don't despair! Teachers at my school had until November 30th to notify the school of their intentions, so our openings will have just been posted. Good luck!

It seems to me that you are marketable. When I started on my international job search, I had 7 years full-time experience in elementary and a master's degree. I took part in Skype interviews with eight schools and ended up with four offers. It is definitely doable. Good luck!

My school deposits my monthly pay into my U.S. checking account. I pay bills from back home using online banking and use my check card at local ATMs to withdraw cash here. It has been two years and has worked smoothly.

I am in a similar situation and in my second year overseas. I own a home in Arizona that is rented out and use my parents' address in Indiana for bills, etc. I still file taxes in Arizona and have my driver's license / car registration in that state, even though my car is garaged in Indiana. It has worked out fine thus far. Of course, Arizona driver's licenses last for 40 years. When I place online orders, I input my parents' zip code and have had no issues using my credit card.
