My husband and I laughed so hard reading this thread - we are just dying to get out of here. Trying not to complain and be all bitchy because it doesn't matter and we are so fortunate to be leaving! So hard showing up here every day, though and doing right by the kids these last couple of weeks...
We drive out four weeks from today for a summer road trip before our move. Hang in there, everyone!!!

Thanks PsyGuy, it didn't seem at all unusual - good to know it isn't.
@threeplustwo - we'll be on a wild Venezuelan adventure...super awesome school, somewhat terrifying city. Should be fun :)

Re: What to do about IB???
Our new school was happy to send my husband to IB training before we fly out this summer. Didn't even seem like a factor in interviewing and being offered jobs. No idea if that is the norm, though - it is our first time out.

Thanks, all. What you've said definitely makes sense...glad I didn't register for that program :)

Re: Counselor Certification question
So the UCLA post-grad certificate in College Counseling for someone with great credentials already...not helpful? I've never met a college counselor who was either Ivy League OR had been in college admissions. But I also asked because I don't know much. I wouldn't be looking to do it full-time, probably...just sounds like fun to me.

On this note (maybe a new thread is needed) I am super interested in adding college counseling to my list of skills. How do you become a "qualified" college/university counselor in the independent school job arena? Anyone know?

Hey MizMorton, did you ask your recruiter? They can't tell you what is in there, but they can tell you if you have something in there to worry about (I think). I'm sorry you've got the stress :(

Re: After you've secured a position through Search...
Thanks, @reisgio - I think that is exactly the reason. Tickets can be hard to come by and they wanted to lock in the dates.
@psyguy - I see what you're saying and have no doubt at all that my experience isn't the norm. It probably isn't the norm for this school that is in a pretty volatile location right now. I appreciate that caution and skepticism are MUSTS if we are to protect ourselves, and I know that's what you were proposing. I do feel like I'm ok, though, and super excited :)

Re: After you've secured a position through Search...
Well then I guess our new jobs make no sense. I don't know what else to say, maybe we are screwed. And yes. I have actual paid american airlines tickets in my possession. I probably didn't explain the visa part right because it is my first time out. I don't know.

Yes, the tickets are in our possession. We have to go in person to the local embassy after approval, so we have our physical passports but they have copies and everything else, are paying for and taking care of the entire visa process, and are paying for the visa run to the embassy.

Re: After you've secured a position through Search...
They bought us $6k in round trip flights and are completely taking care of the visas and paid for the sending of the documentation. I don't think what you are saying applies to this school at all. Maybe most, I can see that. But it is not the experience we are having.
