Re: Nacel International School System & Nacel Open Door, Inc
Thanks for all the info. I am not desperate, just looking what's out there. I did the interview and found out it was for profit and then declined to go further.

Re: Fair Question
Thank you for the info wintriscoming. I also noticed that not all of the schools attending are doing a presentation. Is this normal, and if so what is the reason?

Fair Question
I will be attending my first job fair and in reviewing some of the fairy diaries I still have an important question. In the diaries it is stated that one often has like 24 hours to make a decision but contracts are sometimes not sent out until April or May. If you get an offer will they tell you on which salary scale step you will be placed and the exact benefits that will be offered or will this not be known until the contract arrives? Money will be playing a big part in accepting an offer and I want to make sure I am not in for a surprise later on in the year.

Honeymustard, Thank you for your confirmation of what I feared. I have come to expect if they come calling before I call them there is generally a reason.

Nacel International School System & Nacel Open Door, Inc.
Does anyone know anything about this org? I received an offer to interview and have no clue how they even got my contact info. Seems like they are running schools in China, Turkey, France and South Korea. Anyone with info or that has or is working for them and willing to share some info would be greatly appreciated.

Re: ***HELP! Anyone ever change their SEARCH associate?
Is it Sally? If so your are in for a long trip. Not sure if you can change or not, but I can't understand why they are a rep if they don't want to assist. I feel your frustration as I was there too.

Re: Schools with trailing dependents
QSI doesn't seem to mind dependents. Their salaries are mediocre, but they have all the regular perks like free housing, flights, insurance, free tuition etc.

Re: Getting a job abroad
Try QSI they have no problems with dependents but you may end up in the armpit of the world for the first few years, until you can apply for a transfer to a better location.

Re: Schools/countries to look to or avoid if you're a minori
I have seen African American teachers teaching in various QSI schools and most of their schools also have black kids. I have no clue if the students are mainly from the West or from Africa so there could still be a cultural difference. I wish you all the best and think that if you steer clear of the schools that cater mainly to locals and focus on truly international schools there shouldn't be many problems. However, I am Caucasian so I am only speaking from opinion, and not from experience. Wish you all the best.

Re: Abu Dhabi public schools
Ddd says "plus schooling for kids in international schools" while robbyp48 says "however if you have a spouse and kids, remember school fees are not part of the package and the (good) private schools there are horrendously expensive"
Does anyone know for sure what their policy is on allowances for teachers with a dependent?

Just saw a position on Search yesterday for an IB Film Studies position in International School of Beijing. I can't recall seeing many before though.

Re: Just Testing the Waters
Anyone who thinks they will do a MA at WGU in 1 year is in fairyland. I did both my BA and MA there and it took a full 4 years and 2 years. They will tell you straight up that's its very unlikely that one will complete it in a year. One would have to study full time and be working on various courses simultaneously as when you complete an assignment you submit it on taskstream which needs to be graded which takes time, and then returned for revisions and resubmitted again and wait again and so on. Plus you cannot have as many courses open as you might like at one time. That said, it is a good place to get an education and I would highly recommend it, but don't think it will be much quicker than at an on campus university. Also the other poster is correct, unless you are in the military you cannot be overseas. I did about a year of mine overseas but never told them and had a US address and no one was the wiser, but when it comes to your student teaching, there is no getting around it, you would need to be in the US.

Re: Qualifications for teaching in the US
I would venture to say that her degrees will be worth something, as I just read an article about the state of Arizona hiring Filipinos and Indians to fill their teacher shortages as they most have the requirements needed to become certified from their home countries. Each state will be different so the only way to be certain is to send in her transcripts to the proper authorities in the state you want to teach in.
There are various online universities that offer degrees that lead to certification with University of Phoenix and Western Governors University. WGU will not allow her to enroll until she would have her green card and live in the US, but I think University of Phoenix will. I am also sure there are many more out there.
I would first contact the state credentialing agency in state you wish to teach before applying to a university because if her degrees from India are in education I would think she would get some credit for that.

A post like that is a disgrace to the career of teaching.
