Re: Any Experience with GEL (Global Edu. Logistics)?

I hate to be a nitpicker, but it's adversarial. Oh, and for what's worth it is my confirmed opinion given what I have read on this thread so far that the GEL/Global Edu. Logistics is a fraud. I think we both know that any disinterested observer, say the average woman on the 23 Clapham omnibus, would agree.

Re: What is your recruitment scorecard for 2017/18?

@teppany2 not sure how relevant this is but I heard through my network that Bonn International School < http://www.bonn-is.de/about-bis/work-bis > has a tentative opening for MYP Learning Support position. The rules being what they are I can't offer any insight into the school itself. Good luck in your search.

What's on your professional development reading list?

As a new IT and an unabashed bibliophile, I was impressed by Chilagringa's mention of a horde of professional development books.

I am currently working through:

- Mathematics for Elementary Teachers 10ed by Gary L. Musser

- Dumbing us down The Hidden Curriculum of Compulsory Schooling by John Taylor Gatto

In this age of distraction I often find it difficult to actually sit down and read a book. Still, it'd be nice to hear what people are reading.

Re: Brexit Implications on EU

@Joe30. I, wanted Britain to remain in the EU, for several reasons not least of which being that to have Britain punching above its weight on the world stage, is on balance a good thing. The reason I wanted a 2/3 majority requirement is that unpicking an agreement as momentous as membership of the EU is not a decision that should be entered into on the back of populism, deliberate misinformation, and xenophobia. There is a reason that the US requires a 2/3s majority to amend the constitution. The depreciation in the fall in the value of the pound aids me personally too. I think you may want to dial back the cynicism, this kind of drawbridge up populism doesn't bode well for any1

Teach now does what it says on the tin. Took me 10 months from application to receiving a DC licence.

Re: Praxis core math exam

I struggled with my Praxis math. This site helped me

< http://www.jolenemorris.com/mathematics ... ndex.shtml >

I paid the $10 for the worked exam questions and I would highly recommend you do the same. Shoddy user interface but top quality study material and test taking strategies. Print the flashcards, study the information packs and stay focused on your end goal. Khan academy is also an excellent free resource, although if you are pressed for time it can be a little 'maths for its own sake'.

It is doable.

Re: Brexit Implications on EU

Aye, you are right there but Cameron the dozy pillock, settled what is essentially, a matter of internal . discipline by an ill-conceived referendum. Instead of having the wit to require a two-thirds majority he called the referendum on a simple majority. The wild-eyed populists can now frame the hairsbreadth decision to leave as the "will of the people". The only reason we haven't formally and irrevocably invoked article 50 is that the government was challenged on their attempt to subvert parliamentary sovereignty and repeal the domestic UK legislation enacting our membership of the EU without parliamentary oversight. Once the House of Lords/Supreme Court rules that invoking article 50 needs parliamentary scrutiny, parliament will most likely, enact article 50 and the whole sorry story will continue.

Re: Japan feasible?

Most certainly feasible and in fact highly recommended, with your qualifications and experiences, I am virtually certain that you'll walk into an IT position. My current school has taken my (first grade) twins and my spouse is not a teacher. If I were you I would recommend applying to desirable schools sooner rather than later.

Re: Midnight Running and being chased advice

My hazy recollection of my undergrad degree is more than a little hazy. Under a common law jurisdiction like the that of the UK's, an enforceable contract requires i. offer & acceptance, ii. an intention to create legal relations, iii. consideration, (an opportunity forgone or a benefit paid). From what I can see in the OP there's nothing to worry about. I wouldn't worry about it at all. Verbal contracts aren't worth the paper they are printed on.

Re: Latest update on American School Marakkesh ? Good or Bad

As a disinterested observer, I'd just like to say that as all the previous posts are just this side of actual reviews, being more like candid exchanges in the spirit of collegial bonhomie. PsyGuy, calling for admin and citing the "no reviews" in the open forum policy, is uncalled for and counterproductive.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge, PsyGuy. I'm not a U.S citizen, but I'll look into getting QTS after my two years experience.

PD worthy of the name

Hi all,

I stumbled across this site a little while ago and I've been lurking for a fair few weeks now, wishing I'd had access to this accumulated wisdom and diversity of informed opinion at earlier points in my career.

To the issue at hand. I'm a new graduate of T-N, based in SE Asia. My question relates to renewing a Washington D.C Regular type II K - 6 license. OSSE cites inter alia: " A minimum of three (3) semester hours/45 clock hours of the professional development activities...directly related to the field (subject content) of the license being renewed. " Does anyone have any insight into regional (ideally based in SEA) P.D events/workshops that would meet this requirement? Ideally, I would like to take P.D that would help me hone my classroom skills and be more effective in the classroom, but at the very least I need to start banking my P.D hours.

I've started looking at EARCOS, but other than that I'm at something of a loss. Hopefully, the ISR gestalt can enlighten me. Cheers
