Enrolling in kids in South America

It all depends on the country and the school. Many of the schools follow a North American schedule with certain provisions (longer break for Christmas and a shorter June-July break) even when the local calendar has summer vacation starting in November. Some schools have entirely different calendars while the Venezuelan, Ecuadorean, Brazilian and Argentine American International schools follow roughly the U.S. system. My advice would be to contact the individual schools.
Cheers.

Tuition

Did you resolve your tuition issue? I'm curious since I'm terribly upset by my school's host country tax issue on tuition and...

PS I actually wanted to learn something about this school in Casablanca and then figured I'd ask about one of your previous posts. I do know quite a bit about the competion (CAS) in Casablanca and they are going through difficult financial times. Don't know if that's the case with this other school.

Cheers and suerte.

Colombia!

I worked in Colombia about nine years ago and loved it. I have since been back at least a dozen times and would highly recommend a job in Bogota if you are interested in experiencing a fascinating culture, wonderful city and beautiful country. As far as the schools go in Bogota (both British and American International and Bilingual) don't expect much. However, if this is your first gig abroad - then go for it! Hope this helps. Cheers.

colegio einstein quito

I worked in Quito for a couple of years and the Colegio Einstein was widely regarded as 4th tier in terms of the schools in the city. At the top was the Cotopaxi, followed by the Colegio Americano and just below it the Colegio Menor.
I visited the CE a couple of times doing MUN stuff and found the place nice enough, but not exactly what you would want from an international teaching gig. The school is also strongly linked to the Jewish community. Some people don't like mixing education with religion - wasn't a problem with the few people I knew that worked there.
Hope this helps.

Know what you mean...

Although I am not dealing with this issue at the moment, I'm having to come to terms with the reality that what I was told at the NYC IRC and what my present school really is are two entirely different worlds. My director is an incredibly reasonable person but simply has not been able to deal with the monster that is afflicting my school. It seems too many disappointments are commonplace in international teaching…Ok – done ranting…The reason that I’m posting is that I recently had a child in December and even though I don’t plan on staying here for long I found out that due to local laws tuition is a taxable benefit in my host country. So, even though it would be technically covered by my contract, I would still have to pay roughly 600 Euros a month for my child’s tuition. This is not a point made clear upon signing the contract. If anyone is interested in European schools, it would be wise to check this out. I am aware that most countries in the EU don’t have this issue, but it wouldn’t hurt to check. Cheers.
