Nervousness is definitely to be expected. I did not feel nervous until weeks before my big move to Russia. Then, I couldn't sleep and started feeling very anxious. However, things quickly improved once I arrived here and I have been having a blast. Best of luck to you!

Hi Nicole,
I was interviewing for the 2010-2011 school year so it was pretty recent. The package was the reason I did not take the position. Best of luck!

I was offered a job at the school in Krakow a couple years back. Their package was minimal, not including housing, shipment, or even medical insurance. I am not sure if things have improved.

However, I have a couple friends who work/have worked there and they all have greatly enjoyed their time at ISK.

I can relate to your post. I only had feelings of excitement when I accepted my job in Russia. Then, about a week before I left the States, I started experiencing extreme anxiety and could not sleep at night. I had never experienced anything like it. However, once I arrived in Russia I loved it and just signed on for a third year. Good luck in the Netherlands! I think you will love it!

Those vacancies are at the Moscow campus, not St. Petersburg.

The situation is great in St. Petersburg at the moment. We are crossing our fingers that we will be moving into our new building over winter break. Due to the beautiful city, great package, and excellent staff, admin, and students, there are no openings for next year.

I have a few friends who teach there and they are very happy and the package is good. It seems that many teachers stay for a long time.

My Search associate was also no help to me. I ended up obtaining my current position on my own by applying directly to the school after seeing the opening on the school's website. However, my associate still got paid. After I accepted my new position I notified my associate. He told me he had been trying to get me on at a school in SE Asia. That was the first I had heard about it.

As for PsyGuy, he is not all bad. Definitely a bit of a know-it-all, but sometimes shares helpful and accurate information. I do wish that he would try harder with his grammar.

Yes, I just wrapped up my first year overseas. I had Skype interviews from six schools and ended up with four offers. It is definitely possible. Good luck!

Holland

I was reading some of the reviews on schools in Holland and came upon this line: "Amsterdam is only really livable in with the 30% tax allowance which applies for 10 years". Can anyone elaborate on this? Is this still in effect? Does it mean that overseas hires do not have to pay Dutch taxes? I'd appreciate any information. Thanks!

I would definitely get a second opinion. There are accountants out there who work with expats. They will know all the specifics.
