Re: Amadeus International School/HKIS
Thanks! That's appreciated. I just don't want to be in a place where I feel uncomfortable.

Amadeus International School/HKIS
Does anyone know anything about this (Amadeus) school? Nothing on the paid side and I searched blog but didn't come up with much. How is living in Vienna? Expenses? Taxes? I'm good with money..would I be able to save even a little?
Also still wondering about the religious piece of HKIS...is it low key like an Episcopal school or more intense like a 'we-really-want-people-to-convert' type of school?
Any information would be appreciated!

Re: Search London 2014
@Bluejay...you're in the states? Just wondering why you didn't sign up for the Cambridge fair...seems so expensive to fly all the way to London...but fun!

@higgsboson...I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or are really at a 'no tier' school with a big salary and no oversight...I like having freedom and autonomy in the classroom but I think I'd want a school with some sense of organization and credential...
I know you can't say where you are but was just curious...

Thanks, Shadowjack, that's great advice...just wondering how the protest and political climate affects people just going about their daily lives...
Ha about the dates! I am way too Western for my own good...not into cooking or taking care of men...not that I'm a feminist or anything I'm just not good at it.

I think you just have to do what works for you at the moment...I've had 2 Skypes, 1 phone, 2 others wanting to Skype or chat before fair and 1 contacted me without even sending them anything! Oh...and 1 of the Skype interviews produced an offer but I turned it down. I'm new and definitely not in a high needs area...2 of the schools are considered absolutely top tier! So, not too bad but of course we'll find out at the fair what happens! I'll probably end up at a 4th tier school in a third world country somewhere...or working at Cinnabon at the mall...lol

Thanks, IAMBOG...I am in the states and the young student from Univ. of MD was killed at a protest...was that last spring? Anyway - that hit close to home for me...I've had some interest from a school in Egypt and I know others are heavily trying to recruit...wondering if it's because teachers are leaving...I would imagine there are tons of westerners living in Cairo...just wondering how a single blonde female would do/feel in Egypt.
Thanks so much for your personal insight!!

I have a short and simple paragraph saying I saw their post and will be attending ____ job fair but can also be reached via Skype. I know let them know that my profile, references, and resume can be found on the Search site. It's very short and sweet as I figure they get tons but I have gotten responses. I figure this is easy for them as one click and there all my info. is - especially the confidential references.
I'm too busy to fiddle around with the other stuff...this is working for me but I know it doesn't work for everyone. Plus, I'm new to this and casting a wide net...I suppose later, after my first gig, when I know exactly where I want to go I'll go through the school's website and apply that way - if that's what they require.

I was just about to say the same thing, HOF. And, Litgal, read my last post...I do know that even during the fair there will be last minute postings...even from BKK and some earlier fairs positions may open back up...there are so many variables and things that can happen/go wrong in international teaching that could cause people to cancel their contracts. Skype hirings from November and December may cancel, too, opening up a position that wasn't even available at BKK!
Positive thoughts! ;)
Or, maybe we can collectively put a Hex on all those getting jobs at the BKK fair!
