Re: Best salary/package in the world?

True, but the taxes are very low, unlike other places in Europe; you should be able to save money despite the high cost of living. This is why many people choose to live in Switzerland for many years, and these schools have low staff turnover.

Re: Harrow International School Bangkok

I love Thailand but I wouldn't move there this year, due to the political situation now, especially with a family. While day to day life is fine ( and it has always been like that during internal conflict in the country ), I would wait to see what happens to the economy, students' numbers, who will lead the country, etc.

Older kids would fit in easier than younger one at H in my opinion (year 7 should be fine), also easier for boys. Jobs always come up even in the top schools, and this one is up there with ISB, NIST and BPS in my opinion. There were more than 100 staff kids a few years ago at the school, many people stay there for a long time.

Having a car would help but it is not a must, taxis and renting during the holiday is also a good option, not expensive at all. Not sure what else to say; I don't agree with the comment on TES about the soul/factory...

Re: Harrow International School Bangkok

Good school looking after staff. Decent PD opportunities and fairly stable management. You would have to live on campus for the first year, not bad if you have kids. Lots of families with kids live in campus, excellent facilities. Then again, some people want more privacy. Hard work, two after-school activities per week, great programme for the kids with lots of things to do. A bit out of city centre, lots of shopping opportunities around though. Majority of students are Thai, respectful and hard working. Let me know if you have specific questions.

I was actually talking about the fact that Dubai is an emirate within the UAE, not a different country. I think that fellow educators should know this, in this day and age when lots of info is available within seconds.

With regards to money, I meant that even though some schools might pay well in the Middle East (max 3500 GBP for a class teacher, in 2 or 3 schools), you will still make far less than other professions... Life is not that cheap there, hence the suggestion for a different job.

As I said, good luck with the hunt

Shallow question, Dubai is an emirate in the UAE not a different country. No comparison between the Emirates and Iraq, but if you are after money only perhaps you should try something else.
It is compulsory for all schools to provide accommodation for teachers in the Middle East, and generally 95 percent of international schools provide accommodation or an allowance. Different in Europe, but higher wages there...
Good luck, you should do your homework on forums (here and TES).

ADEC salaries up to 20 k AED per month, plus 140k accommodation allowance plus schooling for kids in international schools. Not all teachers work and live in Abu Dhabi city though, you might be in the middle of nowhere.

Re: Is this enough money in Bangkok?

[quote="appleton"]Can a family of 4 make do in Bangkok on one salary of 170000baht per month? plus 50,000baht for housing? What type of place can we rent for 50,000baht. Can we manage to save anything on that salary? Kids are too young for school, so no tuition issues.

Thank you![/quot

Definitely. Housing money very good, you can get either a very nice condo or a house in a good location for that money.

Salary good as well, you will also be able to save some money if your children are small. Great place to bring kids up, I hope you'll have a great time there.

BISAD salary - at least 15k Dhs/month/teacher with no responsiblity allowance + housing + yearly flights + other benefits (this was 1 year ago, second hand info).

The 45 K GBP at S School includes everything(housing, flights, etc), it's not salary only.
