Re: Working in Tianjin

I had friends who worked at Maple Leaf and my coworker's husband works at TEDA. Both are decent schools. The bigger issues are the environmental ones. My coworker states that her area is safe (she lives in the zone that was directly impacted), but has taken some extra precautions (lots of water and air filters).

Re: Jobs for American and Chinese Teaching Couple?

BCIS in Beijing also have several Chinese teachers who are full -time and it's a great place to work. I don't know if there are any availabilities, but check their website. You can also try the American school in Taipei.

Re: Comparing locations in China - pollution

I agree with this. Look more into Shenzhen. I live in Beijing and it's pretty bad in the Winter/Summer.

Can Chi4, I live in Beijing and work both in the medical and educational field. My view falls somewhere between Nomads and PsyGuy. Please DM me and I can give you more information. I wish you the best of luck. Remember, if this is truly your dream, you will make it happen...you just need patience and perseverance.

Re: Firm recruiting in the UK

Everything PsyGuy said is spot on. Personally, I would pass on this opportunity. If you really want to come to China to teach English, you will find things a lot better. I'm not in the ESL profession, but I do live in Beijing and know quite a few people who do it for agencies that they semi like for good money (30,000 RMB +/month). The key is sifting through the crap and finding quality jobs. Good luck.

Is there a demand for speech pathologists to work in Europe?

Hello all, I'm an American and Canadian trained speech pathologist with 13 yrs of experience currently working in a major city in China. I'm not directly hired by an IS, but consult at a Tier 1 and a Tier 2 school 2x/week. I am looking to make the switch and work for an IS in Europe (Germany, Netherlands, Spain). I do not hold an EU passport, but I do have a lot of experience with kids (all ages from K through Grade 12). I would like to remain in China another 1.5 years and leave in June 2017. I can speak some Chinese, French, and English, but I do have one dependent (am a single mom). I figure if I start my search now (very cursory), I will have a better idea of how to aggressively apply this time next year. Any input would be helpful. Thank you.

Re: Any good schools in Europe? Some are pretty bad!

I'm surprised no one has responded to you yet. I don't have any feedback, but wish you the best of luck. Is it possible that these schools have little resources because they are more in rural areas or is the nature of these schools located everywhere?

Re: single parent teachers

Sorry for the late response... I haven't been to this site in a couple weeks. I know people at BISS and WAB. There are also a couple single parent expat forums on FB that I am a part of. Maybe they will be helpful to you.

LOL. At the end of the day, if your employer is happy with what you do and you're happy, then who am I or others to judge?

Re: single parent teachers

I'm not a teacher, but am a single parent who's heading over to Beijing. I met online quite a few single parents there and they seem to like it. Good luck with your search. You can do it. :)

I have an acquaintance who works there. What is it that you want to know? I can forward the message to her as she is not on ISR.
