The last time I attended (3 yrs ago) it was a similar situation to which you mention, sloth. Best to check with your associate?

Re: Is A Bird in the Hand Really Worth Two in the Bush?
Short Answer:
Pass and Wait, this is a bottom tier offer in a hardship region, there are always vacancies like that throughout the year.

Reliability of the Search Database
I just want to give a heads up to IT's who use this resource. Be very aware that much of the information on there may not be what you expect once school specific contract details are revealed. You need to ask school specific questions to find out the 'REAL DEAL' information on packages.
For example: The salaries quoted by some schools will include their housing allowance (which, by the way is probably also taxed) but this will not be clear on the database! Another thing to be wary of is that some schools may quote an unrealistic 'savings potential' figure plucked from the air - I've found huge differences from schools within the same city. Salary entry restrictions sometimes further muddy the waters and again are not stated on the database. Healthcare insurance is another grey area to be mindful of. Many schools will have restrictions on which hospitals you can use, co-pay policies etc.
Keep your eyes wide open out there folks. This is not a kick at anyone (though I do think Search could do more to make their info. more transparent without too much extra effort) and many IT''s already know this stuff but hopefully a help to those out searching for a school right now perhaps unawares of some of the issues discussed. Good luck!

Re: is it ok to leave after 2 years?
I'm curious....... what would the odds of a prospective employer actually contacting the 1 yr school to check your reason corroborates with the schools' version, even if that happened several years ago?

Anyone worked at the American school there who can comment on the salary and how far it goes. Was it a difficult position location wise?

Your friend was wrong. You asked for advice, I and others provided it. Don't resist ;)

The name of the school should tell you much of what you are seeking from a review!

Re: Athens
Thank you Dirk.
Mmmm, the school seems to be staffed completely by Greek staff, no doubt on a Greek wage.
Is that all there is in Athens?

Not interested in your 'Devil's Advocate' persona TBH, hence no interest in further discourse. Life's too short!

I'm taking a guess that you are heading for Chiang Mai? If so, you should be aware of the burning season up there that causes serious air quality problems. This burning goes on for months and would be an issue to consider with a small baby in tow.
Regarding the salary - do you really need to take this job this time? That's a disgrace of a wage for a qualified teacher! Unfortunately there's lots (too many) of these 'bums on seats' schools in Thailand and too many willing it seems to put up with it. It really is not the Holy Grail and it's certainly not cheap living anymore. You will be watching every baht on that salary with a young family to support and by the looks of it will not develop professionally. Worth it?
Good luck.

'If you cant handle another counties rules, dont go.'
The issue people have right now with Indonesia is their obvious disregard for the basic tenements of a transparent and just legal system. NB has been convicted by a medieval kangaroo court and is innocent. And let's not forget the cleaner who killed himself behind bars and the young girl who was about to marry her childhood sweetheart. The same judicial system has seen one of the Bali bombers released after serving only 8 yrs of an already paltry 18 yrs sentence for killing 20 people. So, in Indonesia you will be forgiven and released early for mass murder of tourists but should you dare sell drugs to Indonesian nationals then they will take your life. Common theme here? Not surprised your moral compass doesn't point in the same direction as most of us on these issues!
I wouldn't touch the place with a shitty stick!

Much is above, no?
Up to you if you choose to ignore, but just looking for validation usually ends in disappointment.
