Re: Bangkok Job Fair
Some schools are genuine in their interview process...others such as the tier one schools in KL, Manila, and Taipei...I’m not quite sure why they bother...they knew who they wanted way before coming here, are are quite obnoxious in dealing with IT’s applying who dont have other tier one schools on their resumes...I had to walk away from the HOS in KL before I slapped the glasses off her face with her attitude...

Progressive Education Meaning
What do you consider "progressive education" ? I see this term a lot on websites, yet a lot of the schools use pretty standard curriculum. Thoughts?

Can you elaborate on your point about planner, parent..etc? It seems very lose/lose.

Leadership Fair
I'm jumping into leadership this recruiting season. I've seen a trickle of jobs that I've applied for. I'm signed up for the leadership fair in Bangkok in November. In your experience, do schools do hiring at this fair? New to leadership jobs I mean...not principalships....

Long Applications
As recruiting season is well under way, and the Tier 1 schools have already posted positions, I am noticing some of these schools have ridiculously long and repetitive applications. What is the deal with them? Are they a tool to weed out those who aren't really interested? So may of the questions are repeated. For what reason? Do these things actually get read by someone? And by whom?

Re: Cover Letter vs. Personal Statement
In that case a personal statement sounds just like a philosophy of education...I wish they would just say that...Oy!

Cover Letter vs. Personal Statement
Who can clearly explain the difference between these? I've seen schools ask for them, but not both on the same application. They seem exactly the same to me and I feel repetitive creating both for the same application. Advice?

Re: FaceTime/Skype in UAE
Sorry....the above blog doesn't even come close to helping. Anyone in the UAE using other options to speak to relatives at home?

Has anyone recently had success using these? If so...how? If not, what are you using? Trying to video chat with my parents has become impossible.

Re: Sunshine and Rainbows
Sorry if I didn't say it clearly enough. For example, when students clearly have learning difficulties, or behavior issues, it seems educators I come into contact with want to pretend none of that exists, because it's difficult to discuss. I'm in a for profit school..is that part of it? Just afraid to lose customers?

Sunshine and Rainbows
As I finish my third year overseas, after teaching in the US for 15 years....I'm noticing something about the attitudes of educators here. It seems no matter what the topic, everything is sunshine and rainbows. No one ever wants to be realistic when discussing students, curriculum, parents, expectations, or even other teachers. Everyone wants to maintain a false sense of sweetness. It's so blatantly false and phony. Does this only exist is certain types of schools or regions? It really comes to the surface at the end of the year when discussions about progress and plans for next year happen.
Thoughts?

Re: Path to HOS
Spend at least 7-10 years teaching in the classroom. If you want to be taken seriously as an admin, you have to know what it's like to be in their shoes. You get one chance to make a first impression, if you're wet behind the ears as a new AP, you'll get zero respect from the staff.
