Teaching Couple Letter of Application

Hi All,

My wife and I are working as a teaching couple in an International School. We are in the process of applying for new jobs, and I wonder if we should write a joint letter of application, or instead write separate letters?

Does anyone have any ideas/advice?

Many thanks,

Hi,

The PGCE is a year long teaching qualification which never runs out and can be used worldwide. I recommend to do this course-I know people who have done the same and are now teaching in good int schools.

QTS is qualified teacher status in the uk-you need to do 1 year in a state school to get this, but working outside of the uk this is irrelevant. I like many have this certification (I did mine in uk).

Go for it!

British School Manila

Hi All,

Does anyone have any information about the British School Manila?
Is it a good school?
Class sizes?
Planning time allocation?
Good admin?
Good package?

Any thoughts would be really helpful.

Thanks in advance.

Much demand for Visual Arts Teachers?

Is there a shortage of PYP, MYP or IB Visual Arts teachers in Asia?

I agree with you, however the schools should give us some kind of option in February to revisit the decision. But yes, ultimately the references will override everything. The fine is harsh though!

Teaching Contract

Hi

In my current school we are required to sign the teaching contract for next year at the end of Nov.

There is no break clause in the contract, so once we sign the only way of getting out of the contract for the next year is to pay a fine of 7,780 USD.

Does anyone else's school do this? I find it hard to take that we cannot even give them 3 months notice, the only way out is to pay them the fine.

Any thoughts would be great!

Cheers

I have taught MYP for 6 years and I agree, IT SUCKS! They use big words to explain simple concepts and its is a waste of time and energy, whatever happened to teaching skills?

I would not bring up any questions regarding negatives until they offer you the job. If you are really concerned you could then ask about things you have heard, but wait until they offer and send you the contract. I would not mention ISR though...

Hope this helps.

Online Teaching Certification Courses

Hi,

I am in the process of finding my wife a good online teaching course. Does anybody know of any available? She already holds a degree, so is looking to do a one-year teacher certification online.

Please let me know if you are aware of any particular universities that offer this.

Many thanks!

Changing minds after signing?

Hi All,

I am in talks with a top international school for the 2010-2011 academic year (yes I know its early) in a country I really like and know. However, I am banking on another top international school in another country where I REALLY want to live, but there is no firm job available in my subject and I won't know until December if any will become available.

I want to leave my current school to one of these schools but ultimately I would choose the second one mentioned. (Both are much better than my current school).

Does anyone know how the situation works if I were to sign a contract with the school I am talking with now (if they offer me the job), and IF the other school offers me something in December/January cancel the contract and go with them?

So basically, I am canceling a contract and signing on with another school later in the recruitment season.

Is this a big no-no?

Any comments would certainly help!

Thanks in advance.
