I currently work in this school, and am in my 3rd year here.
Did you have any specific questions that I could answer?

I can use GMAIL without the VPN in Shanghai. For Facebook, youtube etc. a VPN is needed.

Re: Yew Chung Shanghai Gubei
Hi there!!
I teach at the Yew Chung Campus on the other side of Shanghai in Pudong. I am completing my second year and have signed a contract extension for 2 more years. YCIS schools are pretty well run, the students are high achieving and much is expected of staff. The housing is good as is the overall compensation package. Shanghai is a great city to live in (although the air quality is poor). I have two kids that attend and they love it here. What information specifically where you looking for?

Re: Master List of Schools in China
When you say you are a new teacher, do you mean new to international teaching or you are a brand new teacher? Most if not all of the schools on your list (i teach in Shanghai and know this to be true for my school) will not consider you unless you are fully credentialed and have taught for at least 2 years. If you are brand new to teaching you should consider gaining experience in your home country first. There are schools that will consider someone new to the profession, but honestly, being a brand new teacher is hard enough without adding in the complications of adapting to a new country.

Re: Schools in China and Taxes
Iambog…. Just checked my most recent contract, and it stated the gross and net amount. Are we talking about the same school? I thought you had accepted a post elsewhere?

Re: Shanghai Rego's future unclear as pay row goes on
I'm in Shanghai, teaching at another school and I can tell you that Rego is still open, but most of the teachers are refusing to work till they get paid. Only a handful of students remain.

Re: Cheapest Way to ship from Cairo to Shanghai
I have two options:
For such a small amount of goods it may be best to simply mail boxes to your school in Shanghai. This is what we did. My school kept the boxes in a storage area until my arrival. It cost me about 300 $ US to ship about the same amount of stuff from the US to Shanghai.
The other option would be to carry it as excess baggage on your flight. But if you are returning to your home country for the summer, that may not be cost effective.

Re: Costs of Fulltime Ayi in Shanghai
We pay ours 25 rmb an hour for a 45 hr work week. There are agencies, but we got ours as a recommendation from a family whose youngest was starting school and they did not need her full time any more.
We have ours shop and cook for us. She's a great cook and we find we save money compared to our old habit of ordering take out 2-3 times a week.

Re: getting a job with a non-teaching spouse and 3 children
if you are wondering about the reputation of the school or if the package is good, start another thread and ask. if it's in China i could give you advice, and if in another country, i am sure there are others here who are knowledgeable.

i should have been clearer…. my own healthcare and flights are covered by the school, but not my dependents.
