Re: How to resign my position because of a family illness?
I would be honest. Your Admin is a person too and has family too. This is not a runner, or a "you can't take it". I would not even question it. Tell him, and go. There will always be other jobs. (30 days is also a long time so be sure on what you can realistically do)

Re: Beneficial to have multiple teaching certificates?
I have BC and Ontario. Both have annual fees which gets pricey.
I have found with BC and Ontario offshore, it has been beneficial. I have found the BC one causes some issues with Visas in some countries (lost a few potentials due it not being specific enough which is why I got Ontario).
@IAMBOG - you can easily get Ontario from the BC certificate. However, Ontario is changing the program requirements to 2 year teachers ed - so it might not be so easy in a year or so....

AP Schools
Hello all -
Any recommendations for top AP schools or AP training? Am I shooting myself in the foot by pursuing AP, not DP?
Thanks

Can he do Tech. Support for teachers, Tech. Integration work or maintain a website?
A colleague I worked with had her spouse with her and he was not a teacher. He usually had jobs as above and once he was a education assistant in her classroom.

Both are great from what I understand (friend there). Sunway is a little further out...but great place, great people and ok money when you factor in the Malaysia Pension scheme.

Re: The value of IB experience going back home
Depends on your province. Most likely, you would have a shot at international schools here (private schools and international I should say)
In BC - more public schools are going PYP and MYP - so experience/training helps. My school looks externally for those with experience. However, as I am sure you are aware, there are a lot of local teachers looking for work and they seem to get the posts.
I know someone who came back and got on with a private school quite easily...but she had contact there years ago.
So, I think it can't hurt. There is a great blog post in the archives about returning home - worth a read.

Hidden Gems
Hello all!
Many of the reviews and the posts point to the great big schools (the holy grails) and the not so great schools (the sketchy and untrustworthy). As I read through these, I wonder if anyone within their years of experience has any hidden gems that they would like to recommend; a place they worked that was lovely (not perfect but a great experience!).

Re: What would you do?
That is a tough one!
To be honest, I would be take the interview. I would always wonder if the grass was greener, especially if the first job does not work out so well.
If you receive an offer, then I would have a serious debate - "your word as bond" or the step forward with the admin duties. Some schools may understand the desire for advancement and they may try to counter or support you.

Re: School of Nations, Macao
I don't know much about them but I do know they do not cover housing which is super expensive in Macao. The Alberta school there has a great reputation and I think they pay more plus a housing allowance.
