After much deliberation we have decided not to do the job fair thing this time around, partially because we are not 100% sure we want to leave our current post. We have our info. on TIE, Search and ISS and we have sent letters to our schools of interest. Does anyone have experience with job searching around the fairs? Will directors contacts us after the fairs are over or anytime? Any recommendations?
Anything you can offer is appreciated! Cheers!

Fair or not to Fair
We just found out that the SEARCH Bangkok fair is FULL. We really had our hearts set on it but just did not get in early enough. Now we are in a tough spot. London, the next choice is a HUGE expense for us. My question is...Do all the great package schools hire only at the fairs? What are our chances if we do not attend a fair? Anything you can share helps!!!
Thanks!
Thanks!

How much do you approach a school before the fair?
Hi,
My husband and I are attending the SEARCH Bangkok fair and have narrowed our top picks. I would like your opinion on sending CVs and such to the schools before the fair. Do you suggest it? Do you ask for an interview in advance? Are we behind in the "letter of interest game"?
We have been to 1 AASSA fair and 1 ISS and did not contact any schools before hand but had plenty of interviews.
What do you think?

Offer
They may or may not offer you a job at the fair. It depends on the school. There is no rule of expectation made by the specific fair.

Leaving Indo
Scotty,
No we are in Medan. A village of nearly 3,000 people. We are considering leaving for many reasons including the work load and poor health care.
Jakarta is like an even bigger village. The pollution is terrible, corruption is abundant and so is the traffic. However, there are many expats and many schools. As far as I am aware, JIS has the best package and facilities. Remember it is the 3rd world and your daily life in Jakarta will not let you forget that.

Kuwait and Indonesia
Saiyara,
In the ME, we worked in Kuwait. There are many singles, lots of sporting and non academic clubs and many, many expats. Most are aware of the ISR and the reports on Kuwait and its schools- I agree. Kuwait and the Gulf region are a bit repressive for our taste but places like Jordan and Syria are a must see.
We are in Indonesia now living in a little, well big village in Northern Sumatra, Medan. The school, the Medan International School provides IB training and there are admin opps! Teacher work load is heavy thus the high turn over.
AND>>>If you cant live with rats or the pollution, beware!

ASSA
Hi-
I attended an AASSA fair about 5 years ago. It was a great fair because it is comparatively small when looking at ISS or SEARCH. When I arrived I had notes in my "mailbox" of schools that wanted interviews. I did nothing previous to the fair in terms of contacting schools.
I ended up getting a great package at Colegio C Parrish in Barranquilla. I stayed for 4 years. I traveled extensively in South and Central America during my time there.
This is a GREAT school in a WONDERFUL and BEAUTIFUL country-don't put all your trust in the news.
If you want more extensive info on schools in Colombia or my experience, let me know. Colombia remains to be a hidden jem of Countries.
I have since been teaching in the Middle East and Asia so I have some thing to compare to!

American School in Japan
Hello,
My husband and I have been teaching overseas for 7 years now. We have covered the globe looking for an international post where we can "settle down". We are currently in Indonesia, not really a great planting point due to poor health care just to mention one reason.
We hope to enjoy our job, have access to outdoor activities and sports, travel and possibly start a family. Gee it sounds like a Christmas list. Anyway, we have our sights set on the American School in Japan (there are currently 4 positions that we are qualified for). We will be going to the SEARCH Bangkok fair in January and hope to get an interview. Any information you may have regarding the school, Tim Carr, or how to approach the school pre-conference would be appreciated.!!
