teach away
Hi AnitaHorton,
I'm American, have a BS and MAT, certified in 5 US states for pre-K to 10th grade. I had one year of teaching experience with 4th grade and got a kindergarten job in the UAE. Next year, I'm teaching a higher grade.
Teach Away hires for Abu Dhabi Education Council and everything was very organized at the interviewing end (I interviewed in NY) and things went pretty smoothly in Abu Dhabi. 6 weeks in a hotel in the city while ADEC got our residence visas, health clearances, etc done. Nice way to get to know other teachers in the beginning. My apt. is new and beautiful, although the town is remote (we are paid about $300 extra for not living in a city) and the drive to work is over an hour.
Teachanywhere is another recruiting agency---I think for EU residents mostly.
Good Luck with your job search!

very creative resume
[quote="camiguinpiper"] My husband had a very creative resume which made him stand out at the fair so that is definitely something I recommend!
Thanks for starting the conversation about using a creative resume! A co-worker used stationery with a bright red flower/quilt design border for her cover letter when she became tired of rejection letters...and it worked!
I like the idea of making my own brochure or 3-D card...hmmmm

single mom in the middle east
I know it's been a while since anyone posted here but I thought I'd agree with the above post about the UAE. I know many single moms over here teaching for Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC). Teach Away is the recruiting agency, interviews all over the US...very good experience with them. Only two single Moms arrived with a child (both kids were under 4) and the other Moms waited till they were assigned a school, moved and were settled in...which took about 2-3 months. It was a little tricky getting a baby sitter for a few times when we had orientations/health checks/meetings...but there was one couple where the husband was not a teacher and he became the babysitter. Go for it! What an adventure for you and your kids! In the UAE, Al Ain seems to be the town where most of the families are placed. I think it's the nicest town to live in....it has some modern malls, lots of smaller shops, an oasis in the center, a mountain, archeological sites, a zoo...and if you drive to Abu Dhabi (1 1/2 hrs or less) the road has no trucks...very pleasant drive. You are also near Oman and can drive over the border.

teaching overseas
I had good luck with Teach Away....was hired last summer for teaching kindergarten in the UAE. Lots of turnover here--the desert is not for everyone....but Teach Away also has jobs in China, Saudi Arabia, Japan...very professional, supportive, kind and funny staff.

Sabis schools
Sabis was at my school for the previous 4 years and my co-workers say they passed out 6 worksheets per class....and we are talking about a pre-school/kindergarten with 6 classes a day....so that means 36 worksheets a day. I'm not sure how accurate that is since we have communication problems all the time....but my co-workers who taught Sabis really love it when I use a worksheet and they have trained the kids we teach to love them too....even though we're supposed to be doing a completely different style of teaching now.
