Got it, thanks @PsyGuy
I'm currently part of SA. Would you recommend any other job search agency? I'm considering Schole as an alternative site. Additionally, I'm just checking school databases for schools I'm interested in.

Re: Requirements to teach in Europe
Thanks, @PsyGuy,
So just to confirm, if I hold a professional certification from New York State, am I still eligible to apply? I presume that even if the school tends to hire applicants with EU passports frequently, it's not an absolute requirement. I am Special Ed certified with 10 years of international teaching experience.
Thanks again.

Requirements to teach in Europe
Hello,
I'm exploring the possibility of teaching in The Netherlands in the (near) future. I came across a requirement from the International School of The Hague that states, "Qualified teacher status, eligible to teach in a Primary School in the Netherlands."
I hold a U.S. teacher certification and have over 10 years of international teaching experience. Currently, I don't possess any licensure or permit to teach in Europe. Does this mean I shouldn't apply, or are there potential exceptions?
Thanks

Thanks @Verano
Would the PYP schools be taught in English? I'd prefer an international school where my children could also attend. But with that said, we'd consider all options. I'm assuming the local Dutch school might have other visa procedures.

My wife and kids both hold passports from the Netherlands. I'm not sure if that would help lessen the tax burden. These factors have kept us from moving to Europe, yet we'd really like to settle there, so might just take what comes...

chances of landing a teaching job in W Europe
Hi,
I wanted to ask about my chances of landing a teaching job in western Europe (specifically the Netherlands, if possible). I hold a Masters degree, with 10 yrs teaching experience (5 years in IB schools). I have taught both as a classroom teacher, as well as Special Ed. (Primary). I have a trailing spouse (From the EU) and 2 children. I know the benefits won't be as good as in Asia, yet are looking at moving closer to family.
Thanks
J

Re: New York Initial Certificate to Professional
@scooter93,
I studied in NY and started teaching internationally without any full-time experience in the states. I was able to attain my professional teaching certification a year ago, as they accepted my international teaching experience. I did have my Master's from NY prior to moving abroad.
Good luck

Re: chances in Europe
@Hellotrope, I would be interested in acquiring Dutch Nationality eventually. I'm assuming I can start the process at a foreign Dutch Embassy? The process would be through Naturalisation, correct?
As we are looking into moving next year, it doesn't seem like the easiest time to start the process. But, I will certainly look into it. Does anyone know how long the process takes in total?
Thanks

Re: COVID, 21/22 Job Season & You?
a slight change of subject.. but, wanted thoughts on this. My school doesn't have my position for next year. One of the many positions that was cut. Would you recommend I tell potential employers of the circumstances, or should I request my administration to say it was my choice? (another teacher at my school told me this is what they did.

Re: chances in Europe
Thank you all for your information. Europe in general is not as easy or straightforward as other destinations we have been to. @peachestotulips, we have looked into a permit through spouse before, yet due to not living there and not meeting all the requirements, that has not been an option. We are looking on going anywhere in the EU for now (would love the Netherlands, if possible). We'll be looking for a job, based on my credentials, yet was hoping having my family from within the EU would be a benefit/make it easier. I'll look more through the sites you sent. Thank you very much.

Re: chances in Europe
@HeliotropeI thought I had to live in the Netherlands for 5 years first to gain citizenship. My wife cannot sponsor me, so I'd be looking at possibly working there 5 years.
@s0830887 so to clarify, if a school says you need to hold a visa that allows you to work in the EU, I can still apply since I am married to a Dutch citizen?
@PsyGuy I do hope to gain Dutch citizenship over time. We have been married over 10 years, so we do meet that requirement.
Thanks

Re: COVID, 21/22 Job Season & You?
I was under the impression our school was doing well (we are in Asia). It's established and the numbers seems to be holding. Apparently, the outlook for the next academic year is quite glim. I, together with about 7 other teachers, were just told they cannot renew out contracts due to low numbers. Classes are going to join together, and my role as a Special Ed teacher was seen as a "luxury." We also had planned to stay put at our school, yet that is not an option anymore. It's challenging, as I have my wife and two kids to think about. We are hoping to go closer to family in Europe, yet there is no guarantee on jobs. I'm a bit nervous, as this isn't a good time to be looking.

chances in Europe
I am considering a move to teaching in Europe (preferably Holland). I have been teaching internationally for 7 years (and 3 years in New York State). I am General and Special Ed certified in the primary years. I have experience in PYP and the British & American curriculum. I also have a Master's degree.
My wife and 2 kids are dependents, though hold US and Dutch passports. Would them being Dutch citizens make a difference on permits/my chances of landing a job? I only hold a US passport. I am aware some schools mention that they only accept candidates who hold permits to work in the EU. In one sense, I'd like to get my foot in the door to gain EU residency to allow more options to work/live in Europe in the future.
I am aware taxes are higher and we'll be taking a pay cut. Being in Holland, or another EU country, my wife could work (as she's now a dependent).
What are your thoughts/suggestions for getting into a EU school? I am currently re-joining Search (as I've used them before with success).
Many thanks

Re: expired initial certification while waiting for professi
@PsyGuy,
Yes, I am US citizen. I was able to work out a 3 year extension on my initial certifications, given my situation. Cost $150 though (after already paying $300 applying for my professional). I am assuming I won't have to pay those fees again once the DASA workshop is in order.
