Re: Fast Track to Teaching
Thanks for all the information. The dialogue has been very rich. Does anyone know if any of these programs allow for direct from HS graduation or do they require previous undergrad/ associate degrees? Does anyone know of schools that allow them to do their practical teaching internationally?

Do people know of an online undergraduate education program? I think 3 years sounds reasonable...

Fast Track to Teaching
At my school we have a number of substitutes from the local expat community. One of the parents who subs at the school (and is it quite good) is looking to become a teacher. She is currently a trailing spouse, whose husband's business keeps her traveling the world.
Unfortunately, she does not have an undergraduate degree.
She is trying to figure out the fastest way to get a degree and teaching certification. She would prefer an accelerated online program if available and said she could attend a campus for periods of time throughout the year if necessary. She would like to be accredited by an internationally recognized teaching body so that she could work in international schools.
Any advise would be appreciated!!

My impression has always been you'd make more money teaching at a local UK school...I mean obvious a good school, not a public school but a relatively prestigious private institution with UK curriculum would pay more.
Feel free to chime in though, because this is only a guess based on suggestions from friends.

I've often wondered the salary of ASL. I've taught many former students and worked with many UK staff who have taught at prestigious private schools in London ( ie: Dulwich and Harrow-- the real ones, not the international branches lol).
I wonder what the salary is like especially compared the after mention private schools? Anyone know?

Having flown the so called best and worst carriers in the world I can state generally the difference is negligible, unless you upgrade. For example, some low cost carriers have older planes thus often more room in seats for tall passengers. However the same older plane may lack personal TV's which might bother some but can be solved with a laptop or tablet. Even grumpy staff from unionized NA carriers can be a complaint versus other airlines where staff speak less English. Some airlines do have better food (complete with menus) but is it worth paying 200 hundred dollars extra? I guess it's up to the individual. I just know I've over spend for so called 'great' airlines and been disappointed and under spent on 'cheapo' airlines and been thrilled!

I'm sorry, who requires the training?
My experience is that IB training isn't 'required' by the IB since the school and PYP coordinator are thus 'accredited' by the program. The training by most schools is seen as a rotational practice to keep the school aware of best strategies as set by the governing body, the IB.
It just seems really odd that you need to take two courses?

There are lots of Canadian School. Although not as plentiful as American or British, quality still abounds. Canadian School of Hong Kong is quite a nice school and CIS Beijing wouldn't be a bad place to start.
To be honest though, the top 3 or 4 Canadian schools are actually very competitive to get into since so many Canadian teachers look to go there as a first option for IS teaching.
Broadening your scope to include non Canadian schools of the same tier may find you more success.
Ohh.. also see this for a comprehensive list http://www.international.gc.ca/educatio ... spx?view=d

TIS is a very nice little school, well run, well paid, nice resources, okay little facility..
I know there are many opportunities for make extra $ after school tutoring. People I know there have a nice quality of life (Mid size, rich, modern city, right next to the bright lights of HK)
I dunno about growth of the place.. I think a good IB school could rival TIS. TIS is alberta curriculum thus more Canadian than international...
I'd also come down to tell you more.. lol

I'd say it would be London and Bangkok as 1 and 2, in no order. First off they are earlier in the season and allow top schools to fill voids. Furthermore, most teachers there are already living/ teaching abroad so they are already in the field and much less of a flake out risk for recruiting schools.
Hard to rank'em - London is more for European schools while Bangkok is more Asia centric.
Cambridge is later and lacks international experience.
