Schools in Hong Kong

Hi,

What are the best schools in Hong Kong who offer the IBDP? Which schools use the most technology?

Thanks,

International School Amsterdam

Does anyone have any information on this school? Is it somewhere you would send your kids? What is the lifestyle like in Amsterdam?

Thanks,

Re: My Cambridge Fair Diary

I understand the and get both sides of the to have or not have Fair debate but I am wondering if the fairs and the process is any more pathetic, sad or silly than having people declare in November or December that they will not be returning.

Basically, teachers who sign a 2 year contract and decide not to extend have spent the first 6 month adjusting, the next 6 doing some great teaching, the next 3 deciding to stay or go and then once they decide to go they spend 3 months worrying about getting a new job and the last 6 months they are lame ducks.
Where else and in what other industry does this happen? and even more worrying is how does it effect our students-- aka paying customers and their education? Would 3 year contracts be a better idea?

I know the in theory we are all professionals and everyone is committed to their current job but we have all seen the teacher who is itching to get out and get started at their new job-- my kids have had a few!

Just my two cents

Adoption

When we lived in Malaysia there were many teachers who adopted. Some even returned to Malaysia to be able to do just that. They adopted two babies and then left after their two years were up.

I think that there might be some confusion over the fact that there are two schools called AIS. One is the American International School and the other is the Australian International School. AnnieT seems to be referring to the American one while most everyone else is discussing the Australian one.

Also, PsyGuy, I am curious as to why you think that BIS is a tier 1 school?

International Schools in Chengdu

Does anyone have information about schools in Chengdu? A friend's husband is being transferred there and they are looking for a good school for their 2 elementary children.

Thanks,

I know that I shouldn't rise to the bait but on Sept Psyguy said this about AS Dubai.

Its a very good school, definitely tier one, probably the elite school in the region. Savings however is going to depend on your lifestyle, and you can easily spend a LOT of money in Dubai, very quickly. If you stay home a lot, and just watch DVDs and eat at food stalls or at home, you could save half your salary (understand that those 10K allowances though are only one time allowances, you wont get them your second year). if you want to have any type of night life, or social life, or really eating out, or shopping, you could burn though that money very fast. Understand, there isnt a lot to do in Dubai thats cheap

Now he is trashing the school. I think I smell a troll. Perhaps he will find a new bridge to hide under!

Bobby, I agree with your assessment of the schools in HCMC. However your last statement is incorrect, SSIS is truly not for profit.

Psguy, what information are you basing your decision upon? I definitely do not agree with your assessment. South is a much better school than the Australian school and since they are not a British curriculum the comparison is difficult at best. They had a 100% pass rate on the IBDP last year.

70% of the teachers have Masters degrees and many come to the school after being at schools like ISBangkok, ISKL, Singapore American and Shanghai American.

As far as teacher packages South has the best in HCMC. Money is spent on PD every year and it is the only not for profit school in HCMC.

I know you have heard this before but, perhaps you should check your facts before you randomly add your opinion. Stick with what you know.

Sorry PsyGuy-- no hidden meaning and no dark secrets plain and simple...

The schools are full. The kids have good grades, are very active in sports and other after school activities. We are sad to see them leave our school.

Schools in Dubai --for parents

I wondered if we could look at this from a parents point of view and not teacher pay package or benefits scheme but the education that the children receive at each school.

I have friends moving to Dubai. They are American with 3 children and there for are not really interested in the British curriculum. They have tried enrolling the kids in American School Dubai, Gems DAA another Gems school with no luck. Where should they try next and what schools should they avoid at all costs?

Do we have to let PsyGuy hijack another thread. Can we please stick to the orginal question and if you have any factual information please pass it on?
