We don't drink the water. However, the whole family brush our teeth with tap water, the kids are little and often drink the bath/shower water which we certainly don't condone, but all they get is a bad tummy. We wash with the tap water. We have no sanitation system.

We live in Saigon. Where in Vietnam do you live Psyguy?

I would say that we (arguably of course) don't have T1 schools here, so $40000pa is for the top 4 or 5 (T2) schools in Saigon.

We are a teaching couple with 2 kids and can send $4000+/month home. However, we then use a lot of it for travel. So we could get away with $2000/month each with no saving. In a typical month $2000 gets us a nanny, all bills paid, going out (or getting takeaway) 3/4 times a week.

For Saigon

$40000pa for 12+ years (after tax) is about right for 4 or 5 of the best schools here.

Hi Movie Turlte

PsyGuy doesn't live in Saigon. He's an administrator of this forum.

As for your Q's, I live in Saigon, but don't work at SSIS. All I can comment on is the city.

It's a great place to live. There are lots of things happening for singles and families. With the package I get (which would be similar to SSIS), I have a lovely house, a nanny, tonnes of OS travel and money sent home. Pollution is here (but not pollution like in China, HK, Bangkok, Indo, etc). People are lovely, it's reasonably safe. Good food. If the school checks out, it's worth a try.

How can you judge a school by the number of teachers with masters degrees. You can get MEd's from cereal boxes.

Housing

We live in Saigon in a 4 bedroom house. There are tonnes of them around. You cam easily find one that fits into your allowance. The biggest problem, as far as kids are concerned, is finding a school that wants to take you because they need to pay for airfares, etc for them.

Air Pollution in Asia

My family and I are looking at relocating to Asia to work. When we lived in Beijing (before the Olympics) we found the air pollution too horrible for our babies. Can anyone suggest which cities we should consider/stay away from with this consideration?
