Re: China and pollution...

I went to China for my 3rd international job. I stayed for 4 years in Beijing and ultimately left because of the pollution. I got a few sinus infections and a very bad case of bronchitis.
I was getting paid very well but at the end of the day, my health was worth more to me than any amount of money.
Depending on how sensitive you are, you might not last 4 years. I know teachers who left after one or two years due to health issues from pollution for them or their children.
Note, that this was 4 years with 2 expensive (like $500-1000) air purifiers in my apartment etc.
I realized that after leaving just how much I missed being outdoors and blue skies.
Macao and HK are better than Beijing, but pollution is still a serious issue wherever you are.
So yes, pollution is really that bad. I would think seriously about taking job in China because of it.

Re: Kampala Package

I worked at this school for two years. I don't remember my overall salary but I do know I had about $1500 US a month net. However, it is a LOT more expensive to live in Kampala than they would have you believe. I didn't save anything and certainly had to watch what I spent.

Help with schools in China...PLEASE

Hi Everyone

I am doing my Masters in Education at UBC now in Vancouver. When I am done I would love to work in China. I have worked in Germany and Uganda before this.

I a friend I've met here is taking me to China in April for a month and I would like to use the opportunity to visit some of the schools. However, the reviews are very mixed.

I am a Math/Science teacher with IGCSE and IB experience. Can people please tell me more about the schools or recommend ones I should look at? We are also going to Hong Kong.

Thanks a lot everyone!!
