I hope I'm wrong but it sounds to me like a hire has been made and it wasn't you. Don't let it get you down and keep sending those applications out.

Re: Working in Beijing - Is it worth it? (i.e. damage to hea
Well I hope so because I am heading there in July :). I had many of the same concerns you write about (although I don't have a kid) but I talked to some teachers currently at the school...and they have kids and say it's manageable. From what I understand, you just avoid going out when the pollution is heavy (buy good quality air filters and stay inside) and for me the chance to work at a good school is worth the tradeoff. I for sure plan to buy pollution masks and wear them alot, but I feel like I am going to be able to deal with things and if I'm wrong I'll leave when my contract is over. I hope some people with kids will weigh in also as that is a consideration I don't have. Good luck in your decision.

WBAIS is a great school and Tel Aviv is a kick butt city. If you don't mind non-IB...I'd give it consideration.

Anybody have knowledge of the area around Brent? Is there stuff close to the school (shopping, etc) or do you have to go far to get to anything? I know ISM and British school are close to everything...curious what you all know about the neighborhood around Brent.

I think it's all about your personality when interviewing. You guys have lots of experience and being a couple helps, but neither of you seems to be in an "in-demand" area and so you might not be as heavily sought after as other couples. Still, impressive credentials. Good luck in your search!

I'm going to throw Concordia Shanghai out there into this discussion. Great school and great package.

Re: Living in Beijing
Thanks for all the advice guys. You are opening my eyes and I'm leaning towards not moving there if given an offer. Kind of a bummer because I've had great conversations with some seemingly good schools there.

Re: Finding a position independently
I personally think the affiliation with Search is worth the cost. Fairs are a whole other topic and I think they are becoming less and less necessary, but getting registered with one of the agencies in my opinion is definitely something that helps.

Re: Manila, Philippines
Bumping this since it's close to fair time again. Anybody with specific knowledge of Brent and life there? I would be interesting in hearing about teaching and living in that area. Happy 2016 a bit early everyone!
