Job fairs should only be useful for your first two moves in international teaching, in my opinion.
After that you should have the knowledge, connections, and understanding on what types of school and in which countries you want to live in.
As a new teacher I found them very annoying with very annoying "peacocks" as someone put it here. I would hate to think of what I would experience now as an experienced IT.
You can find jobs and get them without going to fairs.

Re: Policies on Friending Students
I've had a few students connect with me (mostly on LinkedIn) who are now adults - I see no problem with that. If they are not an adult then hell no.

Re: When did you decide to settle down?
Not settled yet but into my 40s now and it's getting less fun to move countries every couple of years. Then again, I have no clue what "settling down" will look like for me.

Re: Japan post-covid
Most if not all Japan IS are recruiting from within Japan for 21-22. It should go back to normal after Covid but for now, it is closed down for outside-Japan hires.

Re: Lesson demos
Always good to have a teaching portfolio but I wouldn't scramble to record lessons now. If you get further on in an interview process, some bigger schools (eg. UWCSEA) will ask you to record a lesson.

They're not douche questions if they want experienced IB teachers...it's douche if they're not an IB school!

Re: What to put in your teacher intro video
From my experience schools barely look at a website you might make (I've made one).
If your CV doesn't speak to them at first glance they aint going to get swayed by your video.

Re: Cost of living in Singapore
I would disagree with the above. I have lived in SG for 7 years and have 6 digit savings that's with adding about 500$ top-up on rent every month for central apartment (you don't have to do that!), and for 6 of those years my salary was below 6K.
And I shop in the "western" stores for groceries. I like to drink alcohol. And I have a video game habit too. And have travelled extensively in these 7 years.
Retirement plan?! Ha! Nope....
Flights every two years and gratuity every year.

Re: Principal Training Center courses worth it?
It may not sit right in our stomachs that the price does not justify the wooden plaque you get at the end but the PTC is hugely popular and courses are full every summer. I haven't done it myself but I know a lot of people who have and the people go to these courses usually hold important positions in top international schools.
So, I think, the dollar amount justifies itself to these benefits:
- Creating and forming a very influential network of friends
- Gaining understanding of the actual content of the leadership courses - people speak very highly of the course content and how it is delivered.
- Although not accredited or officially acknowledged, it is seen (and you can disagree with this psyguy!) as an advantage to have in applying for admin positions in schools. Especially if the school is a PTC member. There are a lot of schools that are PTC member -assess this list as you wish but there are some top schools in there - http://www.theptc.org/current-members/

Re: Vacancy follow up? Opinions needed
Most of the time you won't receive anything back if you're not the perfect match. Sadly that's the way it goes. No harm sending the email but don't plead or bargain just inquire about the status of your application and mention you need to start knowing where you stand as it's coming up to crunch time.

Or tell the MS Principal you would appreciate it if the HOS/HS Principal would drop you an appointment card at the fair.
