You don't know until you try. Register with Search in August and sign up for the Bangkok fair in January 2013. It's a gamble for anybody going to a job fair but, hey, ya gotta see for yourself. You may just fit the bill.

Living and working in Singapore at the mo.

Yeah you would have to share an apartment or get a local apartment (HDB) to save a good chunk of your monthly salary.

Anything else and you can be clever and save money; take buses and MRT instead of taxis (when possible!), buy food at markets etc.

Singapore is bland and not really a city to fall in love with but it's easy to live in.

Yes, joint letter is best. Some schools will just see two separate applications and think of you as separates SALARIES!

I agree with the above post, get in touch with them. Our new school have constantly been in touch, almost like information overload. But I think that's better than nothing at all!! Email them!!

I have a number of friends teaching as NETS. Expect 30-40 students per class and students who really don't want to learn English.

Having said that, package is good and I think even flights home are paid for.

I'm a bit paranoid about telling anyone as we haven't signed any papers yet!

I can tell you that I know for sure that three tech positions have gone in 2 schools in Singapore since the beginning of January. I took one!

NIST offered us jobs but we accepted elsewhere. We don't have 6 years of IB, only 3 and that was 3 years ago. I guess teaching couples and perfect matching to their positions available make a big difference.

Depends on the country and the school. I don't have my teaching cert yet but I'm a few months away from finishing my cert course. And I just got a job in an international school at Bangkok search fair. Although I'm a tech teacher/facilitator/integrator.

A lot of the teachers in my current school have degrees in other subjects non-education but they are pursuing their post grads in education.

Your other issue will be lack of IB experience at a Search fair.

I think there is a bias towards hiring Commonwealth teachers in my experience and knowing many ESF teachers. Probably being a specialist will curry your favour.

Don't listen to any of the other teachers there if they start bragging about how many interviews or how many notes they have got from schools. Move away from them, they will just annoy the hell out of you.

Find like-minded and humble people who will share your experience both the highs and the inevitable lows.

It can't hurt, at least it will give you a fell for what salaries and packages are in each school.

Sign up with Search Associates immediately. Not tomorrow or the next day, get the process started now. It takes a while to get your stuff and private references together, and think about what job fair you want to go to. London and Bangkok job fairs have a lot of Asian positions.
And, yes, look at specific schools' website job pages, if they have an RSS feed subscribe to it.

My friend worked there for 2 years and just about managed to keep his sanity. Can't remember the ins and outs but just a badly run school from my take on it.
Sorry this is second hand info but I wouldn't apply for a job there before the range of ESF and International schools. But if you wanted to move to HK desparately then I don't think it would kill you!

I'm sure you will have a couple of nibbles (job offers, that is).

Concordia schools require you to be married because they're religously inclined. Found this out a job fair interview. Nice.
