As of today, TIE has 24 social studies openings listed. 11 if these are in Asia and the others in africa, south america and the middle east. There will be quite a lot opening up in the next few weeks as the signing deadlines for the schools gets near. I agree with another poster however that jobs in the elite schools are hard to come by and are usually filled by teachers with a lot more experience than you indicate you have. The ESL experience may not carry much weight with the bigger schools either.

wrldtrvlr123 is right about china, there are several schools there that might fit the bill. There are quite a lot of faith based schools that might be attractive for your husband as well. You might try some of the Concordia schools (lutheran) or try the website that features mainly church sponsored schools. There are also several in the Chang Mai area that might be worth inquiring about. Most of the schools will provide housing and tuition for at least one child and virtualy all provide health insurance.

I think that SE Asia is very stable compared to some of the african or south american countries and even some in Europe. I have never felt safer than the years we spent living in SE Asia. As for personal safety, you will be a lot safer in asia than in the U.S.. People in asia just seem to be happier and more content than their western counterparts.

I was in a small school in Saudi for a couple of years and found that it was not at all hard to experience the local culture. Simply driving around the countryside in small villages we were often invited in for tea by the locals as they were always curious about us and wanted to practice their english skills. We also attended a wedding as the guest of a friend who had been invited. As long as you follow proper etiquite, everyone is welcome at a mosque in my experience. You do have to get away from the compound and out among the people by shopping at the local markets, eating at local places and visiting the places where locals like to hang out, not at the tourist or expat favorites.

Tie online jobs
I was hired for my present job through TIE and the resume that I had sent to my school through them. The school called me from the Search Associates fair in Bangkok to see if I was interested in a job with them. We did a telephone interview and I was hired while in my home in Texas by the school head who was at the fair. I have also had one job offer this year via the same method. I have attended UNI and Search in the past and gotten jobs from both but in my experience, the resume and contacting of schools via TIE has been equaly effective and much less expensive.
