Re: Working with challenging husband/wife teams
Avoid them as much as possible. I worked with a terrible combo in the Philippines. The husband was the Head of the school and the wife was the elementary principal. Not to go into too much detail but their shenanigans ended up with both of them being fired before the start of the next school year. I think they are in Thailand now. Anyway, school owners are not stupid, and often these people don't last. Just wait them out and then the idiocy will eventually move on, and then they are someone else's problem.

Re: Should I take this salary package?
@Cherrypop
This is a very poor offer. I currently live in Suzhou, and housing is much more expensive than that. At a minimum, you are looking at 3,000-3,500 RMB for rent per month. This is also a very low salary offer. At my school teachers start at 30,000-32,000 RMB per month before tax. Plus all of the other benefits. If you are set on Suzhou my school will have some openings for August. Send me a private message, and I can talk to you about my school here.

Re: Most/best/weirdest questions at job interviews
Well in a strange interview recently I was told I was coming off too vanilla, and the interviewer asked what makes me angry. "I thought to myself you do you prick." Of course, I didn't say that in the interview, but what a weird question.

Five minutes usually for me, but it depends on the teacher/class.

Is ISR actually anonymous?
Is ISR actually anonymous? My current school recently had some bad reviews, and I have heard they are going to sue ISR to release the name and IP address of the person that posted the review. I didn't post the original review, but everyone is pointing fingers at everyone else. I just want to make sure if I post something there can't be any legal blowback on me.

Re: Trends for 2018-2019
I think looking at China the major growth area will be second tier cities. This year alone at least 6 new programs have popped up in my city here. All of these programs are tacked on to existing Chinese schools, but they run international curriculums such as IB, A-Level, and AP. Kids are 100% Chinese but they are flocking to these programs.

I have a brokerage account with Ameritrade, and I own some stocks but I have not gotten into seriously yet. Is Ameritrade the best platform/online brokerage account? What are your recommendations?

Re: Does Gmail Work in China?
There are a lot of good options out there. Of course it depends on your building, the provider you use, the speed ect. For me I used Express vpn. It works well most of the time but not always. It's China after all sometimes the internet is unpredictable.

Re: FBI background check arrest- which countries to avoid?
This is an issue in China. We had a teacher at my school who was denied a working visa because he had a DUI on his record from right after high school. He wasn't able to finish the school year here, and he had to be replaced. He was pissed but I don't have a lot of sympathy for him because he was a jerk.

Suzhou, China
Hi guys,
I am looking for some information on living in Suzhou, China. I have decided to accept a position there, and I would like to know more about the city. What is life like there? What about housing? What do you enjoy and dislike?
Thanks

Attestation of Documents for UAE help please
Hi everyone,
I have been offered a position in the UAE, but the attestation process for my documents seems a little extreme. My school even said that they would need an attested letter saying my high school diploma was legit. Has anyone else run across this? Additionally all of these documents need to be attested in Washington DC and the UAE embassy in the USA before being processed by the MOFA in the UAE. The problem is I don't live in the USA anymore, and I have not lived there for a long time. Does anyone know how I can do this process without having to fly/go back to the USA? It is really frustrating to the point that I am almost ready to say forget the whole thing.

Re: Admin experience and going back to classroom teaching
This is a low level admin position with a teaching component. I don't think you will have an issue in the future. Now if you had several years experience as a school principal or higher and went back to teaching it might raise some questions.

Living in Sharjah
So I have decided to accept a position in Sharjah. Does anyone have experience living and working in this part of the UAE? This will be my first time working in the UAE and any advice would be welcome.
Thanks

Re: Private Schools in UAE
These are all good points. It is my break into leadership position. I have been offer a IBDP coordinator position at a school in south america, but the position also requires half time teaching.
