Hire someone to do it but shop around. Most do want around 100k baht.
FYI if you have ever worked in Thailand before, then you are out of luck, I'm afraid.

Re: Best place to find North America Vacancies?
Carney Sandoe is good for private schools but they are somewhat picky about who they will represent.
For public schools in California, edjoin.org is where to go, although I sometimes need a VPN to access it. I know of no other service that is so comprehensive for public schools in other states.

Re: Tax question from an IB Examiner
One last question.
If the IB deposits my salary (let's say it's $15k) in a credit union in the US, since I didn't declare this salary in Germany but I did in the US, will the US then tax me on it?

Re: Tax question from an IB Examiner
It is a lot of scripts. But I do two components and I'm a senior examiner plus one of those components is a lot more than $8 a script. And yes, examiners can always ask for more scripts above their allocation.
But it looks like I'm safe - I do not plan on making anywhere near the $101,300 limit. Now I just have to find a US bank. Might go with Charles Schwab. Anyone have any experience with them?

Re: Tax question from an IB Examiner
^Thank you. The amount of money is probably between $15k - 20k. I just want to make sure I don't get taxed on it if I report it to the IRS.
The IRS website on FATCA states the following:
''If you are single or file separately from your spouse, you must submit a Form 8938 if you have more than $200,000 of specified foreign financial assets at the end of the year and you live abroad''
But from my understanding, I still have to file taxes in the US and claim the moneys earned from the IB. Surely the IRS would tax those earnings? Or am I exempt because I live abroad?

Tax question from an IB Examiner
I'm an IB senior examiner and a US citizen. I currently teach in Germany, and I have a question about places to have my examining fees deposited. If at all possible, I want to avoid being taxed on these examining fees. I know that I am exempt from US taxes, since the FATCA reporting threshold is $200,000 (correct me if I'm wrong about this). What I'm worried about is Germany. Will Germany tax me if the IB deposits money in my German bank account? If so, and I open an account in another European country (Liechtenstein for example), is there any way that my German bank would know about it?
Sorry if this is a bit of a dodgy question - I can always move it to the member forum but I thought I'd try here first. Thanks!

Re: Fair Teaching Load for High School Classes
^^That's a lot.
I had six preps per week this year of 6 different levels of English A. Classes are 1 hour each, between 12-18 students. It's not the preps that kill me; it's the 6 different levels. It's an insane schedule.
Whenever I go home to the US to visit and hear my teacher friends complain about having 3 different preps, I just laugh in their faces.

Approaching schools at the Bangkok fair AND the London fair
I've got invitations for both the Bangkok fair and the London fair in January. Because of my location, it's much easier to travel to BKK than it is to London, but I'll go to both if I have to.
My question is about etiquette. If I approach schools at BKK, can I approach the same schools at London? If a school doesn't want to talk to me at BKK, or if I interviewed with them but haven't heard back, do I try again in London? The London fair is a few weeks later, so my thinking is that perhaps the schools attending both fairs will be less picky in London than in BKK.
Just wondering if anyone has gone to both fairs with this in mind.

Re: Search vs. ISS and 3 Dependents
Search tells you that at the Bangkok job fair, less than 1% of candidates hired have trailing spouses. However, 3 years ago I went to that fair with a trailing spouse (as did Shadowjack) and was hired (I think Shadowjack was hired there as well).
So you never know. Just go to the fair (or a few) and be open to as many locations as possible.

Etiquette for calling up schools and principals
I have about 6 applications out for various schools (mostly in Asia) and haven't heard anything back besides the auto reply when I applied. Is it considered proper etiquette to just call up the head of school and ask about my candidacy for employment? Has anyone done this? What do you say?
I realize that I don't teach a high in-demand subject (English A), plus I've got a trailing spouse and 1 non-school aged dependent, but I figure giving a personal voice to an application might go a long way.
All replies are appreciated. Thank you.

Re: Approaching IB schools without IB experience
I paid for training myself but honestly it didn't really help.
Target 3rd tier schools. That's really your only hope unless you know someone who can get you into a better IB school. Do your two years at a 3rd tier school in an undesirable location and then move somewhere better.

Major in the subject that you love. Do you like math? If not, then it's going to be hell for you. Chem/Physics is definitely the gold-standard, as shadowjack says. But again, don't go near either if you don't like them.

Re: Which School???
I've not taught in Taiwan but if it's a proper international school then I'd take that one. A "local private school" in Bangkok can mean many things, none of them good. 12,000 baht for housing is a joke. You won't be able to get much more than a studio for that. You'll be teaching all Thai students and therefore academic honesty will not exist. You'll be expected to pass everyone.
Go with the school in Taiwan.

Re: Workload at UWCSEA and Upper Tier Schools
Never worked there myself but I have colleagues who have. The consensus is that they work you to death. Going home at 8pm is normal. Not sure about your other queries. I would never want to work there; I'm too old anyway. Apparently it's very difficult to secure a job as a teacher there unless you are under 35 years of age.

Re: International schools in Thailand
You will have a difficult time finding work here. You have no experience (years taught before acquiring your teaching license do not count) and you have dependents. You might be able to find work in one of the lower tier international schools but those only pay about 60-70k. Forget about the upper tier schools; they require years of IB experience. Your best bet is to go to another country for a few years (that is less desirable) and get some experience (preferably IB). But even then, with dependents, the upper tier schools are probably not going to look at you. Thailand is a very competitive country -- are you open to going anywhere else?
