Re: Poor admin reference - how do I deal with this
Sorry you are going through this. I was afraid that I was going to get a bad reference from my last headmaster, for we too had several clashes. He was kind, however, in his reference letter. He told me point blank that he did not believe in career sabotage. Due to this, I have not written a scathing review on ISR, even though I feel like I should.
Are there any deputy heads that support you? You could possible put them down as references and skip the head all together.
Tough situation... Wish you luck.

Re: Jordan Social Security Repayment
Your money is gone. We just moved from Jordan and our employer made sure we were reimbursed before we left. The government is about inefficient as they come.
I hope you have luck, but doubt it.

Re: What is your greatest motivator and biggest regret?
Motivator: Teaching scholarship students that are grateful for the education they are receiving.
Regret: There are many things that I would not do over again, but I wouldn't say they are regrets. They made me who I am today. There is always a silver lining in bad decisions.

There will always be elite schools, for elite clientele, offering elite salaries and packages for elite teachers.

Re: Finding the right 'fit' for a teaching couple
Thanks for the responses
Yes, it is in a great location, is very manageable on one salary, and offers a very high standard of living. I agree that the school does not want unhappy staff, so it is likely that this is not a "bait and switch" tactic. We have come to the decision that we are going to sign, but know that we are taking a risk. But then again, most things in life embed levels of risk, so why should this be any different, especially considering moving to a new country.
Regarding the Tier 1 status, I agree, boarding schools do not usually fit the mould, for they are beasts of their on right. If you do not like boarding schools (which most day school teachers normally don't... for good reason,) it would most certainly not make the list. If you like them, however, this school is the cream of the crop, which is why we are willing to take our chances.
Although we are taking the positions, how binding is Search in regards to placement? Although we are registered with search, and our profiles are active, we found and applied for this school out side of search. Would search hold you responsible if contacts were made without using their services? This alone would make a good forum topic.
Nevertheless, thanks for the help. Happy hunting!

Finding the right 'fit' for a teaching couple
Both my wife and I are close to signing with a boarding school. We are both teachers with extensive experience in boarding schools, and have served as house masters in our careers.
We have been on the job hunt and I have been offered a teaching job, while my wife has been offered a part time boarding role. The school is very prestigious (elite/tier 1), so it is really hard to pass on the opportunity.
Although the head is impressed with my wife's abilities, experience, and CV, he cannot offer anything due to current needs--he is very optimistic about the future, however. We are really struggling if we should go. Should we make the jump, with the hope that something will open up in the next few months (year)? We have agreed to go, but have not yet signed anything, and my wife is having severe second thoughts.
Any advice?

Do not go to school is the US. They are 3x the price of universities in the UK and Europe...

Re: Masters Degree That Is Worth Time/Money?
I would not consider doing an online masters through the US. I am currently finishing my online master's degree at a fraction of the cost through the UK. British universities charge less for online degrees because they believe you are receiving less than someone who is attending classes in person. American universities view online degrees as luxuries, therefore they charge twice, sometimes 3X's, the amount.

Accepting Positions at Job Fairs
My wife and I are scheduled to attend the Search Job Fair London. We have been interviewing with a school that is not registered with Search, and they have asked us to not accept positions until we have a third and final interview with their school (which should be this weekend during the fair via skype). I am pretty sure they want to hire us, but we have to go through their proper procedure of recruitment. I know this is just speculation, and I cannot count on the positions fully materialising. Do you know if schools (at the fair) will give you a period of time before you accept an offer, or do they expect you to sign a contract on the spot? I know "a bird in the hand is better than two in the bush," but we really want the job that is outside of Search.
Any thoughts would be helpful.

@PsyGuy
Thanks for the explanation. I am an experienced IT within the IB, but had never heard of CPU until two days ago. Is this something new? or have I been out of the loop? Also, do you think it will grow and spread to more ISs?

Cambridge Pre U
Does anyone have any experience with the Pre U programme? I have an interview with a school that offers the IB and Pre U. Any thoughts regarding the currIculum? Much appreciated!
